Just got my hands on a few fresh water crayfish that was meant to be lunch..but i couldn't bare to eat them so i want to keep these guys but i have zero experience in keeping nz natives so any help would be great. So what i gather from google is that temperature range is 16 - 20c? ph of 7ish with hard water would that be correct? Being summer time few of my non heated tanks are having temperatures of 20 - 23c would that be too much? without having to get a chiller would i need to be dropping ice blocks to cool them? these guys survived no water and 4 days chilled in a fridge and still going strong feels that they are rather tough.

while i was clearing out a tank, just as i pulled a master pet 150w heater above water i saw steam/smoke coming out from it so i lowered back in the water and it made a loud noise and cracked in halve when i turned off the power, what was weird was that when i noticed the smoke the ON indicator was off, perhaps its a malfunction?

Other than the flying fox and oto i have 8 harlequin rasbora?

at the moment i am running just one of 3 54w T5ho with everything else growing fine it wouldnt be light would it? other than that it would either be the 2 flying fox or the 3 otos i have? my guess would be the flying foxes that always seem hungry..

had some stargrass after restarting the whole tank it was doing fine for the first month so i did some trimming to keep it low, but then over the next month it just deteriorated into bare stem why is that? every other plant is doing fine?

update* the leaves now look like this, the brown algae like stuff doesnt come off at all and quite abit of green spots building up also, i heard greenspot is cause of lack of phosphate? how would i add more? and without making another post why is my xmas moss seem like its drying up? its just lost alot of volume over the weeks

i have got root tabs in the tank about 2 inchs apart each other is it not enough?

nope i don't think so, i got it from their discus tank at HFF theirs seems fine mine just deteriorated in a week not sure what might be wrong

cant wipe off the brown spots seems like its in the leave, and the hole is getting larger on the tip of that leave

its yellow ish, im not sure what plant it is but its really big

it's in a 120L x 45H x 40W tank with a 2x 54w T5ho but only 1bulb on, i got root tabs, co2 green with drop checker and doses flurish comprehensive once a week

so the plants will be fine if you chop the roots down by like half?

by long roots i mean 15-20cm roots, do you just bunch them up and stick it in or do you trim it?

wow half a bag for 50L? i find half a bag for my 200L is more than enough well just waiting on more plants and will plant it dry before filling. see what happens

was just thinking of a shoral of harlequins with 2 SAE/Otos and also is it probably not ideal to add a Bristlenose in there? would it munch on the plants?

the tanks 50cm so id thing its sitting about 53cm? and i run about 6-8 hours a day

how long does dalton's aquatic mix last before it start to lose nutrient? also without making another post, i read on a site that says i should have atleast 10-15 times the tank volume per hour for water filtering could i just have a 700l/h with a wave maker to make up for the circulation in a 200L? I think im trying for a low tech dense planted

just been wondering about this for a while, is it better to no have co2 at all than to have insufficient co2? and obviously too much is bad
