Jaide
I recently introduced a new angelfish to my three, there was a bit of territorial reassertion with one of my regular angelfish being somewhat aggressive to the others once the new one arrived. Things have settled down but now this angelfish has developed what looks like a cloudy membrane over it's eye. I tried treating for fungus but no effect. I'm not sure if it is fungus as it looks like a growth over the eye itself as opposed to being on the eye. I tried googling but couldn't find anything satisfactory. I'll try to get a pic of him tonight but I'm crap at taking pics.

Jaide
Nope, I know what that is. It's definitely a growth over the eye. Pics:
alanmin4304
It is probably damage caused by fish fighting to establish mating rights or sort out a heirachy
Jaide
It is probably damage caused by fish fighting to establish mating rights or sort out a heirachy So it will heal?
GrahamC
Looks like a bacterial infection causing swelling and clouding of the eye.
Discusguru
Try treating with Furan2.

F15hguy
possible fungal infection of the mucus layer covering the eye? try a meth blue treatment (in a quarantine tank if possible to avoid colouring everything like a moonscape) http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/disease/eyeproblems.php
Jaide
is he still swimming about and acting like a happy fish? Yes, he's still a happy fish :cr9: possible fungal infection of the mucus layer covering the eye? try a meth blue treatment (in a quarantine tank if possible to avoid colouring everything like a moonscape) http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/disease/eyeproblems.php I'll dose the tank as I can't be naffed setting up a quarantine tank, and it won't hurt the others but will help if they need it. I think fishie would be better with his mates anyway :cr4:
F15hguy
its more that the meth blue will stain EVERYTHING!!!! including the silicone of the tank... you were warned. maybe try pimafix first???? (rarely used it anyone have any experience with it??? except for really bubbly water???)
Adrienne
pimafix is more common for goldfish - melafix for tropicals at least neither of these will turn silicon blue!!
Jaide
Yes I know it stains everything, I've used it before. I was looking for some white stones I have to pop into the tank actually, so they'd go blue too  I thought melafix was to fix rips and tears, and bacterial diseases, not fungus? I do have it though so that can be Plan C if Plan B doesn't work. :cr12:
F15hguy
Melafix = antibacterial Pimafix = Antifungal
#!CrunchBang
Pimafix smells nice :slfg:
Adrienne
both work on fungus, depending on the type. http://www.apifishcare.com/Products/Pro ... oductID=56 http://www.apifishcare.com/products/pro ... oductID=57 However goldfish respond better to pimafix. alanmin4304
It is not normally a fungal infection, it is bacterial. Can also be caused by some parasites but usually by fish fighting (they normally go for the eyes). Extreme low pH or bad water conditions do not help either. Furan2 (as suggested earlier) would be the easiest antibiotic to get hold of without vet visits and prescriptions followed by bills. Fungus is usually an oportunistic infection that will follow the bacterial.
Adrienne
I am thinking that if furan 2 has been used, the treatment completed fully, as in the instructions and it has failed to work, that the damage may be permanent. Normally if the eye is popping and cloudy and the damage has been done by fighting it will resolve itself without intervention within a couple of days, if the tank water is pristine. Meth blue can also be used to assist. After several days has gone by with no improvement the chances are that it has turned bacterial. Furan 2 is the strongest, non prescription bacterial medicine available to fish keepers that I am aware of.
Jaide
I think I underestimated the size of my tank and didn't dose enough with Furan2, which is why it didn't work. However, I put in the correct amount of blue meth and it's working well - the eye is nearly back to normal :dnc1:
Adrienne
Good to hear. I think you will find though, that while the fighting has settled down it will be an ongoing issues. Angel fish need large tall tanks with plenty of visual barriers placed throughout them.
Jaide
I'd introduced a new female filled with eggs - it created quite a stir :fshi: They've now settled down now the fuss is over.
