Ira
Would it be inappropriate to suggest their heads on a pike near the pond as a warning to anyone else that might try the same thing?
Godly3vil
How disgusting, hope they get punished quite harshly.
critter_crazy
Poor things!! :tears: Why would you pick on a tame animal like that? Hope they get punished for both burglary and slaughtering an endangered/protected species!
F15hguy
ummmmm.... eels are not endangered nor protected...... although the longfin population is in decline

disgustipated
at the same time, is there anything actually illegal about what they did? current limit on catching eels is 6 per person per day.... police might have trouble finding something to charge them with. i feel name and shame could be best and maybe the only punishment available... anyone find their names yet? Godly3vil
They are being charged with breaking and entering and burglary I think.
blueether
Couldthey also be charged with animal cruelty, depending on how they were killed?
F15hguy
would be a bit of a landmine if they did try to charge them with that, even though it is fully deserved. I personally think its fishing if you intend to use the corpse (eat or for bait) and cruelty if just for the hell of it. makes it a very large grey area. They're not really edible and they don't make good bait.
F15hguy
they are one of the best baits available, oily as bonito, tough as mullet, unfortunately it is illegal to use it.

Not sure I agree with that distinction - if you deliberately kill something to cause the most pain you can, then eat it, it's still cruelty.
