Caryl
Just got the quote for a 6ft plywood & fibreglassed tank with 10mm toughened glass front with a 4ft ply and fibreglassed sump tank underneath (with some glass in the front so I can see how the filter is going). Glass lids under a 100% recycled rimu lid and stand, top quality 2 pot polyurethane sprayed finish 30% gloss. The stand will have removable cupboard doors for ease of access when required. $2,835.00
Pies
Sounds good. Why though would you make the tank from plywood, why not all glass? I can't image it making much difference if not being cheaper for a tank this size? Pie
Ira
Yeah, it seems like that's not coming out cheaper than having it all glass. Maybe a bit less safer crack and leakwise, but how much would just a standard glass one be?
Caryl
It was more the safety factor. Having piles of rocks in it (being for the Malawis) we figured it wouldn't matter if they accidentally toppled onto ply but could crack glass. Less chance of stress fractures in an earthquake too. This tank will be set up in our computer room and there are usually 8 or 9 computers, printers, scanners ect sitting on the floor around the tank. If it leaked we would lose a lot of stuff. Also easier to drill holes in
Warren
How tall is the tank?
Caryl
It will be 1.8 x 600 x
bart687
caryl, you are lucky to get a tank like this, because I have been looking around everywhere for one, hold your breath bad news,I lost my discus I don't know how but they all were at the top. the temp was 30c so now I do not know what to do. I would like to get a bigger tank and start over again but just seeing Blue Dimonds and brown ones I was sad
