danval
Thinking about breeding these guys... Any interest and how hard to breed and raise? Cheers
Joe
I would definitely be interested in them if you bred some :bounce: Breeding is similar to Apistos I think, except they aren't cave spawners and will spawn on flat rocks and other surfaces
Jennifer
You'll have no trouble Dan, the pair just require slightly warmer water to the apistos. Mine spawn on broad leafed plants.

David R
I think quality rams are one of those fish there will always be a market for.
F15hguy
I've normally spawned them in a bare glass tank with a plastic plant, a small smooth flat stone and a flower pot have been reading a lot recently about using a fine layer of sand on the bottom would help with spawning anyone tried this???, i was thinking about it but wouldn't i make it harder to keep clean??? dino
I would love to have a go at these as well! I am relatively new, really keen, Might give organisms a ring tomorrow. Dino.
F15hguy
If you want to breed them, invest in a brineshrimp hatchery, and make sure you have a good infusoria culture ready before you get them home (my last pair went 2 days after settling in) My Fav fish ever to breed, love the fry clouding around the parents
Luke*
you can use gravel too. from what i've observed having a substrate makes them much more comfortable
dino
this was sold to me as a male rainbow ram, can anyone confirm this, I think its a female, if it is have I got a right to return it? :dunno: it is chasing the other ram: Thanks Dino
F15hguy
100% certain it is a girl, males do not have blue on the black spot and don't normally show the pink belly, plus they have elongated dorsal rays
Joe
That top one has rather long fins, looks like a veiltail ram to me.

F15hguy
nice, definately a male female group this time (I hesitate to say pair til they have done the deed) still think there may be a bit of longfin in the male though... danval
The male is doing a bit of showing off and leading the female to a certain rock and shimmering over it.....

Sophia
do you think I could have a pair in a tank of this size 51cm long x34cm front/back x 22cm gravel to waterline? and are they compatible with corydora?
F15hguy
would do fine as long as you have the ability to remove female if war begins they are normally good, but if she isn't ready he can be a bit pushy, normally ok if there are a few dither fish around though. I've always bred them in tanks around 30cm x 45cm x 30cm
dino
Here is my female (was bought as a male), male on the way! Dan, hopefully my male is as nice as yours!
F15hguy
have noticed a larger proportion of females in last few shipments (actually only had 2 males out of 10 fish)
