karina
Hi Have bought a secondhand glass tank and I cannot feel any silicone in the corners inside the tank. Is this ok? I am used to seeing and feeling the silicone in tanks. Was told the tank was used up until 6 weeks ago. Thanks Karina.
Hamstar99
The silicone should really be between the glass joins (between where the glass meets) not necessarily in the corners outside the joins.
livingart
what size tank?
karina
tank is 1200x50x50 It looks very well made, well braced etc just the one query regarding the silicone. Have gone back to standard glass tanks this year after using Aqua One acrylic tanks for years.
Cricketman
Look around the edges, if it looks like it is lifting/is lifting, REDO Look at the joins where the edges of glass meet, if you can see gaps/bubbles/moisture REDO If you want the piece of mind that it will last the next 5 years easy REDO Re-doing silicone on a well built tank is fairly easy, the hardest part is having to sit there with the glass and clean every bit of the old stuff off that you can... Search the threads in DIY section, there heaps of info and I believe even a how-to somewhere....?
zuri08
For peice of mind u could also get a brush with some vinegar on it then brush it on all the sides let sit for 15 mins then rinse of and then do a coat of silicone over top
karina
Thanks guys Does silicone need to be redone every 5 years?
livingart
no it doesn't fill tank outside, then check all joints for air bubbles if no bubbles then use it

Sorry, I meant 5 years AT LEAST peace of mind before you would have to look at it again. and for the fact that it is of an unknown age...
