Adrienne
You do realise that you can achieve level 3 NCEA but still not get University Entrance unless you have enough numeracy and literacy credits?
Li@m
Yes.
Squirt
In most cases, if your taking 5 UE approved subjects and one is English based and one is Maths based, and you pass L3 you most likely have gotten UE.
myfishybuisness
you can still gain english credits in subjects such at geography and launguages
Li@m
To get Numeracy you have to do Math. but to get Literacy you can get them by doing Geography, History, Classics and English.
Squirt
All English based subjects...
Li@m
All English based subjects... Sort of Squirt, There are only certain papers that get the Literacy credits, not every paper from all english based subjects.
Squirt
I was told all geography and history papers are literacy credits :cofn: not too sure about that now

alanmin4304
How many points do you get for spelling your name correctly? I have a mate who got 6% for chemistry in School Cert. Put his name at the top and spent 3 hours doing a pen and ink drawing of the exam supervisor. Got annoyed when they made him hand it in as he wanted to put it with his C.V. Marks must have been scaled up.
Squirt
You leave the paper completely untouched, not attempted. As soon as you put one dot on the page, not achieved. Essentially the same thing IMO.
#!CrunchBang
When I did level 3 you could only get them from English... I got the bare minimum.

Essentially the same thing IMO. Not attempted can be re-sat, without affecting your grade point average
Squirt
Most people don't worry about GPAs, mainly just the endorsement. Never knew not attempted can be re sat... Well sat.
Adrienne
Aside from being able to access your results online, have any of you received anything in the mail as yet?
Li@m
No, that usually come about a month after the results are released online.
Cricketman
I was the first year of ncea... crap system. Also I don't think you young people understand that school cert you had 5 or 6 subjects and there was only a single exam at the end of the year for each class. No achievement standards and not splitting into multiple papers. This... Plus, I found that having a % score highly motivating between myself and my friends (yes, we were nerds...) but now every-one is so fluffy bunny and PC and "every child is special" that your thrown in a category, killing all competitiveness and meaning that even if you excel beyond many others, you're still bunched together, making it pointless to try do better than necessary to get the "M" or "E"... [/rant]
Sheepsnana
That's hardly a rant, it's a fair point. They don't even say failed anymore, it's "Not YET Achieved". Give the kids a fighting chance at life: "Work hard or fail." simple
Sheepsnana
I had a friend in 7th Form Calculus who technically failed her midterm, despite getting every merit and excellence question correct. Our Teacher was a legend, so he showed this to us and explained: Under the marking schedule, you had to get 2 specific Achievement questions correct, in order to get Achieved. To get Merit, you had to get the Merit questions AND Achievement. To get Excellence, you had to get the Excellence questions, Merit, AND Achieved. She missed ONE of the two specific questions, (she miss-read a x for a + ("Hey Laura, what's 2 x 3?" "6" "Then why did you write 5?" " "). He managed to talk to the other markers, and her merit questions were "counted down" to achievement, but it took a lot of doing.
