GrahamC
Bacteriological diagnosis is a little easier in a bacto lab than a domestic kitchen. You also need to know what you are doing. There's more bacterial cultures in my kitchen than I remember in the micro labs!
alanmin4304
True, but can you serotype them and establish antibiotic resistence in your kitchen?
GrahamC
if it were A. hydrophilia, then a saline solution would kill it. But before this you could gram stain it and establish the morphology. But simplest thing to do would be to send it the local diagnostic lab. All we need is a temporary NHI number. I presume he's a legal immigrant.

Sweetysmum
I only hope it works, she has had two baths and is no better. Three more baths to go. I guess her age may be slowing down her recovery rate.

Sweetysmum
Just an update. After Sweety's bath last ngiht she wasn't very good when I put her back in. This morning she is alot worse. Floaty amd excessive listlessness. I noticed last night how she had lost alot of weight and no longer had her huge belly. This morning she looks like a fish that is on her way out. I have emailed my vet but quite often he isn't there on Fridays and no other vet at the surgery would be able to help. I will have had her 29 years this coming June. Does anybody have any advice they could offer at all for a fish that s excessibely listless. Thank you. Sweetysmum
To anyone following this post and doesn't already know, my big beautiful clown loach Sweety passed away this morning after a short illness. God bless my darling Sweety Thank you for the last 28-1/2 years xxxx
mcmillanm
I'm REALLY sorry to hear of your loss :tears: . It must be devastating to lose a pet you've loved and looked after for so long. You've also inspired me to look into getting clown loaches in the future as I keep hearing about their great personalities as it sounds like Sweety had. Thanks for that.
