Shakey town fun

September--not much damage

February--lots of damage to house and contents and after shocks bring more.

Two inspections by EQC one by insurance company--decide EQC will handle repairs so organise a builder. He inspects with EQC and they decide no building consent required, just get on with it. Builder not happy--consults with Engineer and council then pulls out of job.

Inspection from new builder with another EQC person (in the meantime I have spoken to two senior building people at CCC both of whom I knew well and had worked with at another Local Authority, and understand how it works from a Council point of view.

No need for a big showdown-- builder wants a building consent and will send around architect and engineer to suss out. They both do their stuff then hear no more for a few weeks

Meantime hot water cylinder springs a leak and needs urgent attention. Get plumber round who says tank needs to be replaced (specially made as not standard dimensions) but we will have to pay him because EQC have not paid invoices for master plumbers for many months and he is owed 200k. They will pay if they drop their hourly rate to X. Contact builder who says no problem--send to me and Fletchers (he is subcontracted to) will pay within two weeks.

All is looking good.

Get a phone call yesterday from new builder. EQC have turned it over to insurance company. No one tells us but can only assume that repairs will top 100k. Meet with 3rd builder next Wednesday.

So much fun--Outer Mongolia is becoming more atractive by the minute.

On the good side we have a few leopard eggs and a beardie looking like a bag of marbles.

It gets even better. Since had a [phone call from Builder number 2 and also his supervisor to say that as far as they know work is still being done by them. They are going to contact supposed builder 3 and find out what is up and ring back. Oh what fun and the hot water cylinder is still leaking.
