I have just changed over from African Cichlids back to a planted tank so its only been up and running for about 1 week and a half. Sorry about the crappy pics I'm not sure how to get them down to size cause photobucket has changed since I last used it and everything is different :lol: I am going for a Amazon kinda theme and think I am happy with the way it is planted right now just need them to grow out. I'm running a diy co2 and have just asked a friend in Hong Kong if she can look for a pressurised co2 unit for me so I won't have to spend $700 for one over here. P44 - I got them from Hollywoods who sold them as Julii's after I brought them I was looking at difference's of them on the net and thought they might be the face ones, shame they charged the same as proper ones but never mind I do like them and am hoping to try breeding them. It's going to take me awhile to stock this tank especially with hatchets at $30 each :lol: what do you guys think about the whiptail? will it ruin my swords? I'm still trying to decide if I should get the Cardinals or Rummynose. In my experience whiptails don't eat plants, just algae and anything you give them (even flake!) It's going to take me awhile to stock this tank especially with hatchets at $30 each I was planning on getting hachets untill i saw the price tag. I'm getting pencilfish instead $6.50 each I'm still trying to decide if I should get the Cardinals or Rummynose. cardinals are beautiful fish but as they are wild caught they can be a bit picky with food. Cardinals in NZ are not wild caught and are bred in hatcheries overseas - usually asia and come in the same shipments as most of our other fish. If they were wild caught you'd be paying $20+ each and get them at a large size and have to deal with a very high mortality rate. Red Whiptails and Royal whiptails can make holes in sword plant leaves, but again this is noted by some people who keep the fish, and not all. Some whiptails will eat plants and some wont. It's hit and miss and I don't think there is a strictly 'correct' answer for this question. I had a group of royal plecos (those german ones) and only one out of the group would make holes in a plant; needless to say he was rehomed. I know of a local person who has a red whiptail who does nothing but make holes in the leaves in her swords, but mine from the same batch did no damage. I did think of getting Pencilfish instead of the hatchets but the hatchets are just so different looking and a little school of them would look awesome I think. As for the Cardinals I have had them before and they weren't picky at all, yes they are beautiful but I think rummynose tetras are as well.
