land_lubber
Thought I would post some pics of my Juwel Rio 180. I have just changed over from African Cichlids back to a planted tank so its only been up and running for about 1 week and a half. Sorry about the crappy pics I'm not sure how to get them down to size cause photobucket has changed since I last used it and everything is different  I am going for a Amazon kinda theme and think I am happy with the way it is planted right now just need them to grow out. I'm running a diy co2 and have just asked a friend in Hong Kong if she can look for a pressurised co2 unit for me so I won't have to spend $700 for one over here. Right now I only have 5 Julli Corys in there but for stocking am thinking of the following: Julli Corys x 5-10 Hatchets x 5-10 German Blue Ram x 2 Rummynose Tetras x 15-20 or Cardinal Tetras x 15-20 whiptail x 1 Enough of the talk and time for pics. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/l ... 0005-1.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/l ... land_lubber
Thanks guys. P44 - I got them from Hollywoods who sold them as Julii's after I brought them I was looking at difference's of them on the net and thought they might be the face ones, shame they charged the same as proper ones but never mind I do like them and am hoping to try breeding them. It's going to take me awhile to stock this tank especially with hatchets at $30 each  what do you guys think about the whiptail? will it ruin my swords? I'm still trying to decide if I should get the Cardinals or Rummynose. I'm leaning more towards the Rummynose but am thinking with them the tank might have too many silver type fish in it
Brennos
I like the Trillineatus cories, Might have to get me 4 of them instead of more pandas.
Sophia
looks very nice indeed I see your cories are having deep discussions about their new home
malevolentsparkle
what do you guys think about the whiptail? will it ruin my swords? In my experience whiptails don't eat plants, just algae and anything you give them (even flake!) It's going to take me awhile to stock this tank especially with hatchets at $30 each I was planning on getting hachets untill i saw the price tag. I'm getting pencilfish instead $6.50 each I'm still trying to decide if I should get the Cardinals or Rummynose. cardinals are beautiful fish but as they are wild caught they can be a bit picky with food. phoenix44
malevolentsparkle - Cardinals are not picky with their food and will eat everything from colourbits to bloodworms to what ever else all the other fish eat. Cardinals in NZ are not wild caught and are bred in hatcheries overseas - usually asia and come in the same shipments as most of our other fish. If they were wild caught you'd be paying $20+ each and get them at a large size and have to deal with a very high mortality rate. Red Whiptails and Royal whiptails can make holes in sword plant leaves, but again this is noted by some people who keep the fish, and not all. Some whiptails will eat plants and some wont. It's hit and miss and I don't think there is a strictly 'correct' answer for this question. I had a group of royal plecos (those german ones) and only one out of the group would make holes in a plant; needless to say he was rehomed. I know of a local person who has a red whiptail who does nothing but make holes in the leaves in her swords, but mine from the same batch did no damage. land_lubber
I don't know if I want to take the risk with the whiptail I might have to rethink this one. I did think of getting Pencilfish instead of the hatchets but the hatchets are just so different looking and a little school of them would look awesome I think. As for the Cardinals I have had them before and they weren't picky at all, yes they are beautiful but I think rummynose tetras are as well. Next pay day I think I will get some more cories if they have any and maybe a pair or German Blue Rams.
malevolentsparkle
Cardinals are not picky with their food and will eat everything from colourbits to bloodworms to what ever else all the other fish eat. mine must be the exception then Cardinals in NZ are not wild caught and are bred in hatcheries overseas - usually asia and come in the same shipments as most of our other fish. If they were wild caught you'd be paying $20+ each and get them at a large size and have to deal with a very high mortality rate. "Cardinals are frequently available in many NZ retail petshops, usually priced from $5 – $10, and are virtually all from wild caught stock. They are not a cheap fish compared to, say, the neon tetra at $1.50 – $2.50 each." - http://www.fnzas.org.nz/index.php?PG=cardinal Red Whiptails and Royal whiptails can make holes in sword plant leaves I had no problem with mine and i was speaking from my experience. always happy to be wrong
phoenix44
That article was written a very long time ago. You don't get $5 cardinals any more. Your cardinals are bred in Asia.

malevolentsparkle
That article was written a very long time ago. well it should probably be removed then? You don't get $5 cardinals any more. because they aren't wild caught anymore so they cost more? I don't follow your logic. anyway I paid around $6.50-$7 for mine,

Jennifer
well it should probably be removed then? The FNZAS Fish Committee is working on a plan that will help ensure that all website articles are up to date.
phoenix44
Fish prices have gone up as bureaucratic costs have gone up and not to mention quarantine costs and costs of fuel and freight. What costed $5 then costs more now. Wholesale costs have increased. They aren't supposed to stay flat are they? That is the reasoning behind my "logic" or rather more fact than logic. Caryl
The article referred to was taken from an Aquarium World a few years back. Bryan wanted to encourage more people to breed the fish.
