Caryl
Our hike is usually the extra appliances we run in winter (heatpumps etc) rather than the aquariums, which use little.

Caryl
A lot can depend on how well insulated your house is. If the tanks are in a warm room then there should be little difference.
aaron11
Oh ok thanks my house is from the 1940s But i have fluff stuff in the roof and pink batts and under floor insulation I did use the dehumifider for about 2 weeks and that on the website said 1-2 dollars a day and its old so could be that Oh i been cooking a lot of soups and stews too

broms2
winter for us approx $350-$
JK
Sounds a bit high even with the price increaeses. Our last one was 210 or 185 after PP discount which isnt too bad considering its winter and we have a family of 4 but only 1 tank (120ltr tropical). smidey
i would think it may also be longer showers in winter which uses more hot water which consumes the most power. my parents have a wet back on their fire, their bill was $27 last month
Southerrrngirrl
Yeah wet backs are awesome. Wish we had one, our logburner is right next to the water cylinder... For our power bills we're on the smooth pay thing, we pay $112 per fortnight, and during summer our account goes into massive credit, ready for the big power bills in winter. I much prefer it this way because you don't get those unexpected large bills. Its always $112 per fortnight.
Sunbird73
Last year (pre-fish) our power bill went up about $40-50 in the winter compared to previous year just in price hikes alone. We have a wood fire and the dryer is the only difference between summer and winter (and heating the hot water tank). Since using our dehumidifier our bill went up $30 per month and we use it about 6hrs a day maximum. So for us, our fish tank electricity (75L, 34L, 22L) would hardly impact at all (and we keep our house warm with our free wood Our power company seems to hike the prices every 3-6 mths and I think that definitely has a much bigger impact than heating fish tanks would! Caryl
We just passed the winter solstice on June 21st so should be getting warmer from now on
Sunbird73
Last year from memory June was our coldest month. (but then it was freeeezing last year!). Winter solstice comes too early - the days might start to get longer but that doesn't mean warmer I say another 4 wks of winter - wheres that groundhog? aaron11
IM keeping a record on my metre each day or when i remember My freezer would be about 14 years old so I will replace that when I can get a new one Ive tured everything else off !!!! trace&steve
omg dont go there ours is anywhere from $400 - $500 a month!!!!! we run at least 12 big tanks out in our fish room with a heater running flat out and all the filters plus the good old heat pump inside and all the water used for tank changes, i like to bake so theres the oven on abit and kids bath's and showers all add up but were changing to mercury the start of next month so fingers crossed they are abit cheaper.
