purplecatfish
Can anyone identify this? It's the same worm in each picture, they only way I can describe it is that's it's leech-like There's 12 other pictures in the same folder but they're too large to post here they're 001, 002, 003, 020, 021, 023, 024, 026, 027, 028, 029 and
alanmin4304
Looks like lumbriculus (blackworms) or tubifex. Probably the former as tubifex don't swim. Probably came in with live food or new plants.
supasi
I found similar worms in the bottom of my Daphnia culture when I cleaned it out. My fish ate them.

purplecatfish
Thanks . I found them in the substrate around the roots of some crypts when I changed my big tank around. Funny how blackworms are red :-?
Barrie
these are great food for your fish, why not gather them up and cultivate them?

purplecatfish
What conditions do you keep them in? And what do you feed them?
Barrie
I belive they are tubiflex but thats from my memory 25 years ago.( use to by them and store them in the fridge) When I found some in my tank in the lounge, I gathered as many as I could and they seem to breed OK I raise them in a small tank with a bit of grave on the bottom with a heater( they only reason I have a heater is that the only tank I had available was a twin tank)
purplecatfish
livingart's link makes a distinction between Blackworms and Tubifex. And I'm pretty sure that these aren't tubifex worms as they can swim.
Barrie
when I had fish all those years ago, I had never seen or heard of black worms so just thought that thats what I had here Either way, the fish love them
