darkfur
My little boy really needs a replacement girlfriend, I don't want him to pine away of loneliness now his beloved girl has passed away. Does anyone breed them or know of a breeder preferably in the Hutt Valley/ Wgtn area? Or I would be willing to go as far as say Levin or Wairarapa to pick up. I know there are lots of birdie people like me on here...

livingart
do you know how to sex them?
darkfur
I'm told its by behaviour. The one I have left was the more lively of the two and would jump around shouting "CHEEP!" periodically while the one that passed away was much more sedate and would do a far quieter series of "cheep-cheep-cheep-cheep"
livingart
essentially yes the males sort of dance with their feet neat little man made finches good fosters for foreign finches
Jennifer
I used to breed these and I found that they really appreciate being in a group of at least 4 or 5. Of course back then they were very inexpensive and easy to find...

The female was the one constantly running around yelling at him that he was doing everything wrong?

These guys breed like wildfire....maybe I need to build an aviary again and start up a breeding programme.... I can see some economic opportunity there! 8)

They're not rare last time I checked, $40 for a pair at bird barn though.

Wow, I really have missed my calling....I had no idea they were so valuable here. I used to sell these for $8 each!

Jennifer
Yes, well they were sooo easy to breed and there was a glut in the market. Great for fostering my Goulds - which I sold for $125 a pair.

Paws
I need help, altho could be a bit soon. My girl lost her girl friend and I managed to find another, thought a girl, but think he's a boy My girl hasn't left her nest for 5 days and i wonder if she's sitting on eggs. I don't want to breed them, and don't know what to do. Can anyone advise, or maybe take them to their home and care for them? The parents I mean and the chicks when born, or even now if it won't upset them. I am in Sefton, North Canterbury. paws xx
Caryl
I spoke to someone who lives in ChCh and used to breed these. If you still need help by the end of the week, let me know and I will contact her again but she is at a conference this week so unable to help until she gets home.
