tinytawnykitten
Does anyone use this product? - the one that sprays a mist of pyrethrym (sp?) insect repellent into the room at regular intervals. I am wondering because they say to keep it away from fish tanks which aren't well covered and I am not sure how well covered they need to be. We get a LOT of flies in the summer, most likely cos the dumb neighbour puts meat on his compost heap and won't stop no matter how many times we ask. Plus the dovecote in the garden probably attracts a few.
Barrie
I have 2 in the house and at the worst time, one in the garage/fishroom but keep in mind that all my tanks are covered
alanmin4304
I don't like the idea of continuously breathing insecticide so only spray as required.
Barrie
in summer with the birds (even though they are cleaned daily) I would need to spray a can a day... mind you I do detest flies
Matto
i think we use ''slay'' and it doesn't affect my fish,i think we got it from rd1 or farmlands
phoenix44
i use that stuff during the summer months - the bird is fine with it, as are we and the fish and what have you. bugs don't seem to like it though

smidey
We have 2 in the house without any probs. us to. how good is the hood on the tank? pyrethrim is a natural insectaside is it not?
Insect Direct
Wont catch me near one. Just another thing our bodies probably dont need. Those "natural" products may or may not be harmful to us. but if it kills bugs. Then you have to wonder.

alanmin4304
Being a natural product does not make a thing any less toxic. Some of the most toxic compounds out there are natural. One of the most toxic chemicals known is the toxin produced by the bacteria Botulinum which is the basis of botox so why people would want to paralyse their face with that is beyond me. The pyrethrum used in fly spray is synthetically produced otherwise there would be millions of hectares of daisies growing out there. tinytawnykitten
Hmm, I think I will give it a miss then. Never mind the fish, I have a newborn baby and 5 year old and I also look after children in my home full time. At least I'll get lots of exercise with the fly swat. alanmin4304
If you want to be realy green and also amuse and educate the kids you could get a fly trap and frogs.
Southerrrngirrl
What about one of those flower sticker things you stick to a window? It might help. I have used them in the past and they seem to work, judging by the amount of flies I have to vacuum up around it. Only thing is its a big, ugly, bright flower sticker on your window.. :-? New_to_fish_world
I use the spray and it's been fine My fish tank does have a lid tho. I use the air wick container as it sprays every 36 Min's instead of 13 Min's Like the Mortein container does. I got 3 kids and one has asthma but I have never had a problem with the Mortein spray I also keep mine across the room away from the fish tank
