Dixon1990
Actualllllly, many breeders keep bettas in these untill they are sold
N1CK
It's fine for fighters, as long as they have large daily water changes(preferably 100%) and exercise though things like flaring they will live in jars happily. people often use even smaller containers that that and still manage to breed some very good and healthy fighters Have you noticed that most people that breed smaller fish(like killies) don't actually use filters? Water changes are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than a filter
blueguppies
the guy at the LFS guy showed me some siamese fighters that he took out of a polybox that had just been imported. There was about one and half cups of water in each bag, and about a cup ull of air MAX!! He said they can live in tiny puddles in the rice fields. spoon
I am not really into fighters but boy would I love to see that in the wild! they can breathe atmospheric air through an organ on thier head afaik all anabantanoids are the same gouramis etc . this is what ensures their survival in places like rice paddys- muddy ,hot, water short on oxygen . N1CK
I am not really into fighters but boy would I love to see that in the wild! It works beacause the whole rice paddy acts as a natural filter and the all the water is connected (It sounds dumb .....) the anabantiods use their labyrinth organ to breathe the atmospheric air http://www.bubblenest.net/betta_anatomy2.jpg hehe the siamese fighting pistol shrimp sounds intersting :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Fruju
I'd still be pretty ticked off living in something I cannot move in and where my vision is distorted by the walls , the fact that these guys have to survive this in the wild is different, thats part of nature and the cycle usually ends in a swift death, but this is different - if you get the gist of it, if you know what i mean? pink_fish
18 x 14 x 5.5 cm? What could be kept in a tank of that size apart from fry? :-? Or a single, betta. With no heater.

N1CK
I was looking at that the other day , by the looks of the fish in it, I'd say that the dimensions would be for the whole thing not just the tank
Fruju
Whether or not you do water changes often, i still think these set you up for fail , they even recommend goldfish for those small tanks  , and people who haven't been educated think its ok.
