Southerrrngirrl
I'm thinking of making up some shallow boxes/trays out of polystyrene sheets so I can raise seeds in them. What kind of glue would be best for glueing pieces of polystyrene together?
Matto
you can use yogurt containers?
Caryl
You can possibly get those trays for free at your supermarket if you ask nicely.
Southerrrngirrl
you can use yogurt containers? I don't eat that much yogurt... You can possibly get those trays for free at your supermarket if you ask nicely. Yeah but I have polystyrene sheets lying around doing nothing... Ira
Most epoxies should work and should be non-toxic. Foam safe CA from a hobby shop would work too, normal superglue melts polystyrene.
alanmin4304
I have glued poly to wood with water based no more nails and it worked well--don't know about poly to poly but should be OK. You just need to stay away from solvents that will disolve the poly.
livingart
yes no more nails works, but i think it will come apart under long term exposure to damp
si_sphinx
Try gluing tooth picks or skewers into the poly joins to help hold them together.

Stella
I would be worried about the strength. Most polyboxes are quite thick and being formed in one with thick curved corners is a lot stronger than gluing slabs together. Cardboard boxes would probably work better and be less hassle. Wrap some fiber reinforced tape around the outside of the boxes to reinforce them.
David R
You could just buy some? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Ou ... 223881.htm Shipping to Southland could be pricey though, given their large volume. Or just go to the supermarket and get some bean trays...
