Aquatopia
Hi - I have bought a tank which has a pretty hard-stuck coating of green algae on it that will take some effort removing - are the green kitchen pot scourers too hardcore for tank glass ? I dont want to scratch the glass. Any suggestions ?
livingart
i use them, no worries so long as they aren't the soap impregnated ones the other option is a razor or craft knife blade
tracytrout
I bought a spatula (like you use for icing a cake..mmmm) from the $2 Shop and it worked great for getting off stubborn green algae and no scartches on glass But wait there's more..... I also bought a plastic fish slice at the same time and it also did a great job HTH
Aquatopia
Thanks guys - gonna go with mystic's suggestion then use a scourer for any little bits that are too stubborn
Wok
I use the scourers from the $2 shop and the like, I think that their plastic scourers aren't as harsh as the supermarket ones, and you can buy them in bulk
LYNDYLOO
I use the Non Stratch Scouring pad that you pop onto the end of the Handle thingy, that you fill up with Dishwashing Liquid. Obviously I don't fill the Handle with Dishwashing Liquid. I find the Non Scratch Pads alot less harsh than the normal scouring pads. Morcs
Aquaone sell a blue scourer pad. Feels rougher than your average kitchen ones... yours should be fine.
Stella
Be careful, anything fibrous can pick up bits of grit ans scratch the tank. It is not the scourer itself the does the scratching. Flat edges (blade, unused eftpos card, plastic thingy) can't pick up grit.
skippy_49nz
I also bought a plastic fish slice at the same time and it also did a great job You could also use this for turning your fish over and scraping those stubborn plecos off the glass. kiwipete
I have been using an old plastic card like a credit card for my tank and it works a treat. 8)
Whiskas
I do what Lindyloo says - works great!!! Can use them on the handle or off, whichever My bosses wife uses a paper towel to wipe down her tanks. At work we just have a Bristlenose to do the work for us
