Query on ID and updated pics

I have found out that this little dude came from the importers (they don't buy fish off private breeders) of his parents, straight to the shop I spotted him at. My query is, if its a hybrid, would that mean its parents were in a container with other cichlids or is it a possability the people breed their own fish?

You can't see it too well on the photos but there is a red/orange stripe along the top of the dorsal fin.

To me that definately looks like a dwarf flag cichlid (Laetacara curviceps).

lol hmm its about as far away from a dwarf flag as you can get, it is definitely some sort of mbuna probably a hybrid zebra.. What wholesaler/importer did they come from? Brooklands has its own breeders that supply most of their african species.

both. it could be that the parents of this fish were in a tank with more than one type of zebra in it.

it could also be that someone has deliberately bred this little fella - or conversely it could have just been an accident.

LOL didn't see 'feeder fish' written on the bag.

They are purple emperor tetra.

So how would I know if any fish I got from any importers were the real thing or hybrids?

Not that I mind my little dude. It gets on well with its tank mates and the colour changes depending on its mood, are neat.
