VinsonMassif
Something dark. Mud colour or grey or charcoal all look good.
LYNDYLOO
I'd go with Black Will make your Plants and your Fish stand out more
wagonman
well looks like it could be black, i thought a lighter colour would bounce the light abit better. what sort of paint is the next question, tank is acrylic. how you go with the pics lyndyloo..... SamH
I'd personally go for a blue, not the most natural but looks great. I'd say test out some different sheets of coloured paper before you paint, see what you like best.
Ira
All my tanks have a "Wall and hoses behind them" background.
Zev
Black! There is a way to stick a thin plastic backing on with vegetable oil, but I will have to look it up for you.

paul_r
i used black paper selotaped together to go round the back of my tanks, cost about $5 for paper and tape and done all my tanks, looks impressive and can be removed/added in minutes/seconds
Stella
Yep, black. You don't notice it like you do a lighter colour, and it really makes the fish stand out. House paint leaves a much smoother finish than poster paint. Don't clean the algae off the back ever, then it winds up blending in beautifully. wagonman
im going with black, stuck a black rubbish bag behind it and it looks great, just need to figure out how im going to do it now as i only have an inch between the tank and the wall, thinking along the lines of cardboard and strong tape
Aquila
Don't be sad Sam It's just my opinion. Lots of people like it...and if you like it then that is all that matter... you'll be the one looking at the tank every day! Besides, your tank looks great! (even with the blue background...hehe)
Bilbo
It depends on what you are putting in it. If you have discus then go light because the dark colour will make the fish go darker. I like the idea of black on the apisto tanks but at the moment the fish room is light blue.
wagonman
i went to stationary warehouse today and got a piece of black plastic like the election billboards are made out of ($10) and abit of double sided taped = great job

wagonman
Before shot was taken just after a gravel vac hence the bright gravel...Show's off the green of the plants which im happy with..
Stella
THat looks great! Matte is what you want, gloss would detract. The point is that the black background optically 'fades away' and is not noticed. Reflections draw attention. Are you able to hide that heater at all? It detracts from the overall masterpiece (bearing in mind I know nothing about heater use and placement...)
wagonman
I could put it lower i guess, i just followed the instructions when i put it in and it said centre, thanks for the comment tho.
