AquaVitamins
I want to upgrade from my 60L, I have a space for a larger tank - 600 wide 1100 - its in the corner of my room, the tank length can be up to 1100 in length and up to 600 from the front of the glass to the back.. hope that makes sense .. I was thinking of getting it brand new, because i have seen some good prices for some of their tanks. Can anyone help with what to avoid and whats good and bad when upgrading??? Like which models etc.. My budget is $550 ish Thanks, Dylan.
phoenix44
custom make your own tank, to those dimensions and then choose your own lighting, filtration, heating etc. - try getting some stuff second hand, but get a good heater.
LYNDYLOO
I can highly recommend the Aquaone Tanks, I have 2 of these I have an Aquaone AR980 which would be similar to the size your looking for, not sure your going to get a New Tank SetUp for round that Price though, as Phoenix said maybe a cheaper option to get a New Tank made then shop around for the Lights, Heater, Filter etc... phoenix44
oh i should have made that slightly more clearer. It will only be cheaper if you get most of the accessories cheaper (like on sale) or second hand. if you, like me go in to a shop and get exactly what you want brand new, it will definitely be more expensive. so then its better off buying a ready made setup like an aquaone and getting a heater and cannister filter separately; or getting a juwel and then just getting an external filter in the future. I tried convincing lynda to get the juwel but someone doesn't like the sharp corner look aye?
Caryl
I don't buy the ready made tank and stand units available in lfs as I do not like the look of them (and I think they are overpriced). I get my tanks made by a glazier (cheaper too) then have a stand made.
LYNDYLOO
If you go with an Aquaone, I would definitely recommend you go with an External Filter instead of running the Tanks Inbuilt Filter.
AquaVitamins
How much would it cost to get a glazier to make me a tank?? I think i could get a stand/ Cupboard from an opp shop. Just so i can work out the costs

Just so i can work out the costs I recon that $1 per litre works as a rough guide for your normal rectangle tank.
fishybiz
Why don't you try Peter at Port Nicholson Glass. His are $1 per litre and are made of 10mm glass. He is the best in the area.
AquaVitamins
So if i got the tank made for roughly $200. I would then need to buy a stand, How much would it cost to get one made? After that i need lighting and filtration, Lights are expensive too!!!
VinsonMassif
Or you could make one yourself for next to nothing and paint it what ever colour you like.
Aquila
I think getting it custom built will probably be the cheapest option...there is a guy somewhere in Welly that builds really nice tanks and stands. I forget his contact but I know it as several people on here have used him. Anyone? BUT I also know that is going to be a massive sale (like 50-60% off i think) at Animates Kaiwharawhara mid July (July 18th i think), many of their tanks come as a complete starter package so it may actually come out cheaper. Another option would be to check out the deals on TradeMe.
AquaVitamins
Yea well im in no rush to upgrade. The thing with getting an all in one set up, is that it looks tidy, and the plastic lids are great for hiding the lights and keeping the fish in. I look forward to the animates sale!! Thanks for the tip off
Aquila
I just got an email... Animates Kaiwharawhara (probably other locations too) will be hosting 'Aqua Fun Days' on Sat 18th and Sun 19th July. They say there will be lots of bargains, competitions and fishy fun! Hmmmmm...haha. Maybe see you there?

Another option would be to check out the deals on TradeMe. I got the flyer in the post today. Its not all tanks at 50-60% off. I actually visited Animates a few days after you posted that, and the prices on the tanks have all gone up since that visit. Im sure the 180L that i wanted was $599 before the discount. And today i saw that it is now $899 and will be on sale for $699! So animates are increasing the prices so that "hot Deals" arnt that great Damn!!! i was so excited too
phoenix44
Im sorry, but that is absolutely impossible. what tank were you looking at, where did you see the price? (on the bar code or a sheet or paper advertising the tank?).

Having seen the tanks they have in Wellie and the price they have one them there is no way they would do that. Also if they did it would cost them a lot more than they would make if someone complained and if audited they would be up for some HUGE fines for "deceptive conduct"
Aquila
That really really sux if they are marking up. When the guy told me about he said that not every single tank will be on sale, but the majority will and those that are will have REALLY good deals on them. I think all the fish will be buy 1 get 1 free at least...maybe we can sin something for free

Scottie841
Well thats the thing i dont have any proof Ask them or get the price from down here and ask Pheonix and he will tell you if you are being stupid or not. It is something that if found guilty of they could loose the whole business (NZ wide not just local) I dont intends to be mean but it is something that is just not done and would never be done
