VinsonMassif Posted May 25, 2009 Report Share Posted May 25, 2009 After being inspired by Supasi's emerse crypts I decided I would try to grow some stunning plants emerse also. Today I set up a 100cm x 40cm tank. The substrate is fine schist beach sand with aragonite sand mixed in. I shall put in hollow pots tomorrow to raise some of the plants out of the water. Today I just bunged them in there once I had chosen my specimens. Maybe...lol Try Alanmin if you are serious what are you going to light it with? Navarre Yeah it may be too warm for those newts. I have 3x 4' 6500k tubes including one plant tube over them atm. The 3 options for fish which I may include are: leopard danio, short fin Betta, or Khuli. They all do ok in 4" of water and plants. phoenix44 Posted May 26, 2009 Report Share Posted May 26, 2009 Nice setup. :bounce: But I don't understand why some people grow plants emersed (i know for wholesalers its more viable, cheaper, takes up less space, etc) but with the exception of crypts where you get nice flowers- what is the reason to have the emersed setup? do they grow faster? or is it just for flowers? My pH comes out of the tap @ 5.5 and gasses off to ~6.0. My KH is <1 and GH undetectable from the tap. We are on bore water. So I have to buffer the KH so there is at least some.
