broms2
I manage a medium sized company and if a customer came in and was not greeted I would be asking why not, you can give the customer time to look but a greeting on arrival is just good manners. I understand that, the problem is that with up to six staff working at once, a customer is often greeted six times upon entering the store and get really peeved off with us

michael.qian
If there was more than two customers at the store, or better in one place, I would not bother to say hi to them all obviously. But in many occasions, I was the only one there, in these cases I would expect to be greeted, especially if they pass me on the inside, at the counter I don't really care. broms2
I understand that, the problem is that with up to six staff working at once, a customer is often greeted six times upon entering the store and get really peeved off with that is why you have a person on front of store, in saying that though I have been in shops where I have been greeted by a few different staff members, I don't leave thinking how bad they are, I always feel great that they were so friendly, there is a line where it can become pushy if you just ask if you can help, but if you greet someone with a hello and a smile they will usually be more inclined to ask for help because it makes them more comfortable. one of the parts to my position is finding good staff, I am always on the look out for someone special, I can tell you if someone doesn't greet me when I enter a store they wouldn't get a second look. Check out stores like Bunnings and Mitre 10, very competitive market and always someone on the door greeting all customers.
supasi
Yeah, a security guard.lol   Seriously though. Im in appliance retail, and its acknowledgement thats the most important.I mean customers are the reason I have a job. The hardest part is, as shown here in this thread, that its different strokes for different folks.
Aaron-Betta
I dont know if it is just me, but I'm a person who doesn't like to be bugged the moment I walk into a store. I prefer to be given the chance to come in and browse before being greeted and asked if I needed help. Being talked to the moment you walk into a store sorta makes you feel like you are obligated to buy something straight away. On the other hand, other sorts of shops its good to have someone near the door to help those who are after something specific quickly. Discusguru
Instead of them greeting you why not greet them first. That way you'll get a greeting from everyone you meet lol. Or you can print a T-shirt that says " say Hi or i'll walk out" and wear it everytime you go shopping lol. For me I like to sneak in without anyone seeing me so I can browes in peace ron
