So its been cold of late

So its been cold of late....and thinking I was doing the right thing I thought I would add an extra heater to the tanks to help keep water temp up over night.

This works fine if you also remember to plug those heaters back in once all the changes in tank have been made. Otherwise your tanks get even colder. This is what I learnt today.

So remember to check double check and triple check those plugs and switches.

Lost

6 200mm pinochio whiptails just starting to spawn

Colony (30 or so) of BN's

Colony of N brichardi

Colony of Lionheads

Guppies

so at market prcies down here about $700-800 worth of fish I guess.

Sorry to hear about the loss.

I don't need to worry about not replugging the heaters as I just leave then plugged in during my water changes. The heaters lie in the bottom half of the tank so as long as the water change is no more than 50%, the heater remains submerged.

I'm very sad to hear of your loss :(

After some of the recent experiences of members here, I think I'm going to become an obsessive-heater-checker!

I have already changed everything to two different power points (each with a multi-plug attached). Each plug now has one heater, one light and one filter plugged into it. That way if the overload gets tripped or one of them gets knocked out, hopefully things won't get too bad before I notice.

(The advantage of having one ligh in each is that hopefully I'll notice if one of the lights stays off all day.)
