repto
i don`t know that there is any cost for the permit but I know they inspect your housing for the lizards be fpre you get the permit. We used to have outdoor enclosures but not sure what the doc standing on this wouls be,I think they prefer that you are a member of the herp soc but also not sure if this is a requirement?it is a good way to get to know others and in fact the only way you are meant to get your animals by swapping etc ,others will have the latest rules & regs. georgeous
I think Hans has/had geckoes, you should get in touch with him. Didn't think skinks need permits, but I may (probably  ) be wrong. Make sure you post pics ASAP if you do decide to get them thought Cheers, George

broms2
I have just gone through this process, you may find this helpful, http://www.reptiles.org.nz/regulations&husbandry.htm as for costs, it differs for each area, get hold of your local DOC person And yes you need a permit for all Native reptiles, also the australian Rainbow skink which is in there by default. rockwork
hi we are going through the process at the mo and you can have out side or inside up to you were you wont them to be. but there are regs on size of enclosure. wot plants you need to have in there for the type you have the best thing to do is go to your local d.o.c office and they can give you every thing you need to no. and become part of the herp society that helps and then you can get some lizards you cant buy them or sell but you can swap them kat and zane

henward
i have a permit costs about 65 dollars you will needd an outdoor enclosure though some inspectors will approve indoors as mine was so long you can prove you have all the things you need outdoor is neccesary. they are made for nz weather, so no worries for cold. if you want a guaranteed, easy no hassle enclosure, go for a exo terra flexarium or explorarium... WOW, i just bought one, currently i am in south africa, they are less than half price here compared to nz, cheap as hell they are perfect for nz geckos, im buying for a beardie set up but you can have them out doors and is perfect for nz geckos
