I have just set up my new 160lt... It will have an eheim filter appropriate to the size which has new filters.... If I put the small Fluval filter into the tank as well will the bacteria cross over? and can I add the fish from the small tank immediately? The fish are all quite small and young...

1angel

5 rosy barbs

5 golden barbs

1 cory

3 platys

I have three tanks already running.... the fish in one of them need to be transferred to the big one... i guess i can begin by transferring the smaller ones over and let the tank run through it's cycle. My understanding is that this goes quicker with filter media taken from the already established tank?

Thanks for your help...

Yes you can use some media from the established filters. If the small tank the fish are currently in is not going to be used right away, move the filter over to the new tank too and run it along with the new filter. Saves mucking about with the filter media then.
