OscarBoy
do you tie the cucumber down? put it ni at night and you will most likely see it gone. GOOD LUCK
Ktttk
hi, good to hear they are doing well. Have you checked your friend's water conditions to see if they are suitable for the fish? How long has your friend's tank been running for? If you have no luck with cucumber, try courgette. And like OscarBoy said, make sure you weight it down so it sinks - one easy way is to stick a fork in it and put the whole thing in the tank. Cheesejawa
one of them died as did all the fish in the tank from white spot and the other was apperently died of stress and was eaten by his other bristlenose
OscarBoy
I reckon it would be easier to tie it down with plant ties? thats what I do.
morfin
Yeah try the courgette. Take the skin off most of it - but leave a bit at the bottom to hold it together, put in a glass of water in the microwave for 3 mins 30, tip out the water and put in cold water to cool it down. After about half an hour put in the tank. We have three bristles, 1 golden and 2 normal and they strip it overnight.

Wok
get the lead weights used to hold down plants. They work a treat.. i use them to hold down cucumber and courgettes. I find cucumbers work cause they are like $2.50 each as opposed to $5/kg for courgettes
cichlid7
I find cucumbers work cause they are like $2.50 each as opposed to $5/kg for courgettes lol i take them from our garden how long can they be left in the tank??
Wok
2 days would be my guess... otherwise they get all squishy and mess up the tank. If you have leftovers then add in a little less the next time.
Caryl
I've always left my cucumbers in until they disappeared over the week. Usually all that remains after a few days is the rind and it slowly disintegrates.
Cheesejawa
thx my GBA ate most of it last night, It is fun watching them too. The other fish had a bit of a go at it too.
Caper
Caryl I've always left my cucumbers in until they disappeared over the week Does this not make a mess in the tank?? Caper
Caryl
No, they just eventually float to the surface and the fish nibble on them in passing.
danilada
I have one fully grown Male Bristlenose in my community tank, 4x clown loaches and about a dozen kuhlis plus other fish, ill slice off a good size portion of cucumber and no doubt it would have vanished come the morning. I find my baby bristles (Tsarminas lot) take a couple days, but I let it float, because its more fun watching them all hanging off it. If I knew how to post photo's I would as I have a gorgeous photo of a baby bristle on top of the cucumber, only just under the surface (as the cucumber has been half eaten and is starting to sink) and it looks the the little bugger is surfing, really cute, dunno if any-one elses bristles climb to the top?
