Nicolette
yep another neat freak with a tank. and yet in the beginning it seemed like such a tidy hobby. lol. So the front of my 2ft is covered in spots of green algae. My pleco and catfish dont seem so interested and my SAE could care less... what is it and how do I clean it off without annoying the precious wee fishies? Cheers, all. Caryl
Old credit card works well. Any direct sunlight hit the tank?
Nicolette
for about 20mins around 5pm if there is sun about it hits the tank..other than that no direct sunlight. Err... just scrape it off with the edge of the credit card I assume?

smidey
or at the LFS they have the magnetic velcro scrubbers. they work very well once you get on top of it.
Nicolette
really?! I have one of those and it doesn't seem to move the spots at all... although the SAE to love the bit of debri it manages to get swirling about. Me thinks perhaps this will be a time consuming task... hmm..

michael.qian
I use a glass scraper. Works well I do it once about every two weeks but it always comes back.
carla
I use a glass scraper (Bunnings) or my trusty old green kitchen-spongey-underside. Both excellent.

John Rimbauer
I've got all three - a velcro magnetic scrubber, a not scratch pot scrubber, and an old AA card. The card works best of all, of course I found out after I'd paid for the other two...
Stella
old credit cards make the BEST algae scrapers. Not only the most effective I have used, but the least able to pick up bits of grit and scratch the glass (learned this the hard way And once you have perfected your set-up, it is pretty much all that credit card can be used for! Aquarium Dude
I find that the magnet cleaner works brilliantly, its an aquaone designed for 16mm glass although I use it on 10mm
davidb
I have an expensive mag-float on my reef and it works well... I find those aqua-one cheap magnets don't clean very well... IMO
Nicolette
I tried using the magnet again and it does work... just slowly. I think I should have used it earlier than now. but I brought a couple of plastic scrapers from mitre 10 mega yesterday as the edge looks a lot like a credit card and tried using it last night. It really does work quite well. So the mans credit card is safe for now.
