kiwinana1956
We have a male gourami that has a white fluffy thing on its side, it looks like cotton wool what do I do to treat him?
Adrienne
Remove the gourami from the tank ( or float it in a container filled with tank water inside the tank) and treat with methylene blue. Works best if you can get a drop directly onto the infected area. Its a type of fungus usually caused by a nick or cut.

Ok thankyou very much will do.
kiwinana1956
How long do I leave the gourami in that tank? I got more methylene blue on my hands and fingers but got some right on the spot. Thank you Di
Caryl
Until he recovers. This will stop him being picked on by other fish. It should not take long to cure.

Do I need to put any more methylene blue in each day or will the drop I put on him and the 2 drops I put into the tank be enough?
Adrienne
See what it looks like after a day. Quite often the fungus peels off fairly soon after applying it. See what it says on the bottle (I don't have any here at the moment).
alanmin4304
Keep an eye on this fish as fungus is an opportunistic infection that usually follows a bacterially infected wound and it may need treating with a bacteriacide like furan. alanmin4304
Another way would be a drop of meth blue !% and malachite green 1 or 2%. I would hold the fish and dab it on then leave it out of the water as long as you can without stressing it too much. When you return it to the quarantine container it will take some of the meds with it which will be good as well.
kiwinana1956
will go buy some malache green and try that as well as the methyalene blue. Thanx Di
