ajbroome
Folks, The Palmerston North club is going to spend some time poking about in the rock pools down at Pukeura Bay on Sunday the 15th of Feb. If anyone wants to join us they'd be more than welcome. It's pretty much a 'bring your own everything' kind of deal. Contact me for more info. Happy to shuttle fish etc from PN to anyone who can meet us in Pukeura Bay or vice versa if that's useful to anyone. Andrew.

Ira
That's what I was thinking, Warren. Pick up more glass shrimp and some hermit crabs. Andrew, I've been collecting my water from pukerua bay. Only made one trip for water so far though. There's a pullout right where the road meets the coast heading from wellington area. Seems like a fairly easy spot to get water. It can't be too far from where you guys are planning on going.
paddy_whack
So it is Pukerua and not Pukeura then?...

Since we're coming from the north we might stop at an earlier one, or else there's an interesting spot just past that (heading south) where the sea is not visible but you turn off the main road towards it. I've seen geckoes etc there as well as the usual sea-life. Paraparaumu is only 15min or so up the road, it'd be great if you could meet us there, Ira, so we could all stick together. Otherwise, as I said earlier, I'll have my cell phone with me. Andrew.
Ira
Where in Paraparararumumumu would be best to meet? I'm not particularly familiar with the area. PM me your cellphone number, just in case?

Ira
It's not looking at all promising for good weather tomorrow. But, I'm going anyway if anyone else shows up.
Dark
i'm sitting here in kingston hoping that you are all still with us if you went out - the wind is so strong you can taste the cook straight spray and i have had to tie almost everything down, even considered the car... A good time was had by all who turned up. We caught heaps of things. A web page of the photos isn't far away. Ira
Getting there and back wasn't a problem, for me anyway. The problem was that half an hour after I got back the power went out. So I had 12 hours of stirring the tanks with spoons to give them a bit of airation. All except my biggest cooled down to around 21°. Only losses at the moment seem to be 3 cardinals (WHY?!? the hell do I always lose ALL the cardinals?) The backyard was flooded to about 3-4" deep, a nice big river going past the house. When Bridget was coming home from work at 7am the highway was closed off because of flooding, Lower Hutt is apparently totally flooded, all the bridges over the river are closed, took her an hour to get to Upper Hutt and she had to drive through flooding that was up to the 200SX's bumper. Cops have totally shut down any traffic headed towards Wellington. The road up the hill home was covered with slips, flooding and waterfalls. The inlaws who live about 5Ks up the road are stuck at home because the road is blocked off both directions. Isn't it supposed to be hot and dry this time of year? Oh, and it was nice seeing you and everyone else too, Andrew...(Except the canadians, hehe Just kidding)

Considering they were done pretty quickly using a relatively cheap digital camera (CANON A40) I'm pretty happy with the way they came out. Remember, this is last Sunday which was the beginning of the nasty weather that has closed down much of the lower north island... Next year, we'll have to go look at the other coast I think, to see what we can find there. Andrew.
Joze
I think that long starfish you have is of the pest variety, one thing that there is around the mana wharf is a little black bully sort of a cross between a bully and a knife fish. Never seen anything like it anywhere else.
