    Crayfish

Sorry reef, but you can't of read my post correctly. I specifically asked for lower south island water temperatures so that I could gain information of weather or not I could house north island fishes alongside. I know the exact water parameters to house crays and paua as I have done my research. I am also going to put in other lower south island fish species with regard to the species I know you can have. I will however reasearch and see if I can house the ones I am unsure about.

    Crayfish

Just to bring up this topic again. I have setup a cold marine to house native NZ fishes. I have purchased some crayfish and paua from this guy on trademe. Just a quick question, what temp is NZ water down the bottom of the south island? Anyone know? I will post pics of the setup once I have put the crays and the paua in.
  3. Just wondering if anyone here uses msn to chat about marine on a sophisticated level and the ability to send pictures e.t.c If anyone is keen: [email protected] Cheers
  4. LOL Draining the whole tank 5 times, sounds like a great idea, in one hit ofcourse.
  5. Strange that someone would think that that tank is somehow average in any way shape or form no matter if its tank of the month or not, a tank like that is only something I could dream about. To me that tank is very impressive indeed.
  6. 75l and my placo's are still very small. Atm with the size of our room, that is only the real choice tha I have, otherwise the mrs will pull her hair out
  7. As said above there is a guy on trademe who legally sells them, myself was interested in going cold marine before I decided on tropical, cold would be much cheaper to fill due to fish prices whereas you just have to catch the cold for free.
  8. I'm thinking of buying this tank here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auct ... d=29211625 as I have wanted to keep africans for quite some time now. I will still have my fresh tropical community fish and my main tank which is marine, but take out my shark and put them in with the africans if this is ok? I would also like to put my placo's in there aswell and was wondering if I could do this. Anyways, is $150 collect ok for a tank like this, I noticed it needs the bulbs replaced. Cheers.
  9. Thanks for the help people.
  10. I've got a trickle on my tank and I have barely ever caught my fish rising for air on the surface.
  11. I have a 300 watt heater in a 130l tank, it heats water changes very quickly and due to the fact it is overkill, the heater itself doesn't have to work so hard so often, hence a longer life hopefully.
  12. Cool. I only ever done 5-10% water changes per week and I never bothered heating it as I've got a 300watt heater which takes care of the cold water very swiftly. Not too sure if thats a good thing or not for the fish however I never had any problems with it before.
  13. Hey there, how much would you charge for a bunch sent to dunedin?
  14. I used stress zyme to setup new fresh tropicals but never bother with it after the tank has cycled. Only chemical I use for my community fresh tank is that Aqua plus - tap water conditioner and add the correct amount upon a 10% weekly water change, and have never had any major problems, only with new fish once or twice but that could of been shock due to a new tank environment. However no problems for atleast 6 months.
  15. Hi there, welcome aboard. I'm relively new aswell and these guys have helped me through some tough stages in setting up a marine tank.
  16. Yeah its on another lid with a tiny hole for the air hose, spare room which is dark. Best I knew this incase the water was useless down the track...
  17. Awesome, quite unbelieveable to know how popular the AR620T's are, I thought I would of been one of very few that had one.
  18. This would have to be one of the most poplular threads on this site. Very nice tank chimera once again, the pic above is that a filter from your tap?
  19. I've put my containers in my spare room with a single pump driving 3 sperate air stones for each individual container. Is there anything else I need to do to sustain it for about 2 weeks?
  20. Thanks for that site snowman. Going to use it right away
  21. Thats pretty cheap. I wonder why only 350 for what you get, thats an outstanding price.
  22. Here is something I will share with you guys, some of which may find quite humourous. I was preparing to do a water change on my AR 620T when I decided to accidentally drop the lighthood into the tank completley submerging it. The lights were both turned on but luckily for some reason I had plugged the lighthood power plug into my computers switchboard which has protectors on it PHEW! So my computer and lighthood shutdown, not electructing myself or the fish. Took out the lighthood and dried it out over a week dismantling all the parts and tried it and it was fine thank god. I'd hate to replace cause they would probably cost hundreds.
  23. As I said above I though about 5k. Someone ask him where the 15k has gone, he may have taken into account dead fish lol
  24. 15G Sounds a little high don't you think? I would of thought about 5g would of been around the norm for something like that. Looks to be a nice tank though, a little unclear with the water or is that just the photo quality?
  25. Just noticed this thread and thought I would pop in and say hi as I've only realy surfaced the fresh and salt threads. I have a 130l marine setup and a standard 2 foot fresh tropical. P.S Is there anyone else in Dunedin with marine tropical wanting to chat?
