  1. I'll pitch in a 20 nicka. Can we create our own government? I.E no taxes?
  2. Snail traps get a few but not all I found. As said above, clown loaches will surely take care of them.
  3. Hey there, this tank is 2x1 foot. I am waiting for the delivery of my 4 foot as the shark is a little too big for a 2 foot and he's only going to get bigger.
  4. Yep, happened to me before, phone rang and forgot about the hose from the filtered tap. It will never happen again, I'm 50% sure lol
  5. I used to have a ghost but sadly he died after a disease I caught from a petshop. He was awesome, hardly ever went straight ahead e.c.t I would very soon get another one if I could but they are pretty expensive. A little advice from myself and that is they love secluded areas where they can hide. So if you can setup a home for him where only he can hang out, he won't stress out.
  6. Hi there, I have mainly been hanging around the Marine tropical threads but I also have a fresh tropical tank aswell, reminants of my old tank now used for my marine's Heres a couple of pics: My fav fish: I have about 5 or so swordies and platties, one shark, 2 gourami's and a couple of plecostomus's which you can never see, and a couple of other randoms. They are in this temp home until I get my 4 foot for them as it is a little too small especially for my shark.
  7. Would have to be one of the better looking ones I have seen, nice colours.
  8. Wonder what his reserve is for the setup and I wonder how much money he has invested into it. That pic of the yank tank is HUGE!!!
  9. Looks good. I can't wait till I have my tank in use to put all these fellas in!

Yeah, I've been told that it's quite hard to obtain the best chemicals to treat fish due to the MAF guidlines. Why is this just for fish chems?

    Skimmer

LOL :) Do you see what I mean, its not that I don't apreciate the help but its all confusing me, I know to have a highly successfull reef tank, I NEED to have that SUMP! On the other hand, if I am only running fish at the moment, I think from what information I have gathered here I can sustain a decent tank with NSW and DI water changes.

    Skimmer

Roger that Pies. I've had a decent look around with watching a video and reading atleast one book. What I am confused with is all the opinions coming in my direction. I.E people are telling to do things one way and others are telling me I am wasting my time with it, if you know what I mean lol As soon as I can get that out of the way, I'll be fine, but atm I am going to plumb in a skimmer to my trickle filter on the lid and go with that, and do atleast a 5% water change per week and aim for atleast 20% per month. This should be sufficient as I have access to NSW, and can get access to DI water through Paul B.
  14. Excellent. Thanks for the info TM.
  15. This is absolutely disgusting, I have never before seen such cruelty with fish. Does this person have a clue?

    Skimmer

Thanks for your help guys. At this stage, I am going to go with a hang on skimmer. Any idea on how much these cost? I will have it so that it hooks off the filtered water in the trickle filter on top, then have it going back into the tank. I will just have to do weekly water changes of 10%? Once the skimmer is up and running. So many ideas, so much confusion lol. When I origonally started the idea of marine. I was told by the petshop that I could easily fit a protein skimmer inside the tank, by the same outfit that sold me it. I was horribly wrong...

    Skimmer

If I had no other option but to have a hang on skimmer, what skimmer is the best you can get or you guys to recommend. Tank: AR620-T 130 litres. Now I have been told by my local petshop that I don't necessarily need a protein skimmer and a sump with all its medias. But here I am being told differently. And now I am confused. The tank I have is not necessarily suitable for a marine setup yet on the Aqua 1 site it says it is, otherwise I would never of persued this marine setup. It is hard to explain, but because of the restrictions on access to the tank for any water for sump and protein skimmer, this makes things very difficult. Ive been told I can't drill through the glass because it is toughened and may crack and explode, but then other people are telling me different. Scenario's: 1 - If I decide to go with the sump/skimmer, what are the benefits of having a sump with all the medias besides taking all the crapola out of the tank. I.E Will the fish die without a sump/protien skimmer eventually or what? 2 - If I don't decide to go with a sump/skimmer. What things will I have to do to keep the fish alive? Will I I.E have to change the water (10% with NSW) every week? If that is all then I will decide to go without sump due to the implications and extra $300 involved.

    Ouch, what happened to them?
  20. Paul B Says that the glass is toughened. What is the worst that can happen? The glass smash and go everywhere?
  21. Hi again. I was wondering how I would go about drilling 2 holes in my tank for my sump (in/outlets) The tank is an AR 620T, which I am pretty sure is glass but have been told otherwise. Can I just use a standard drill with sawmouth drill pieces? Or what do I use. Also, what sealant do I use around the gap of the pipe? Cheers.
  22. Sorry fellas, Clown fish it is. Please remember I'm a newbie to the marine.
  23. Hi there pies. I have just spent the last hour reading through this very interesting thread. Well done and congradulations on your tank which seemed like a huge but very worth it task. I have never in my life seen anything so extensive such as this in a home. It makes my tank look like a 20cm diameter plastic bowl with one goldfish. Would this be one of the biggest home tanks in NZ?
