  1. Hi Heni, sorry about the slow reply. I am also from Dunedin (andersons bay). I have a 130l marine setup and a 2 foot fresh tropical.
  2. Sorry for the slow reply. I am from Dunedin and have a tank exactly the same as you are after but its converted to marine. I also have a fresh tropical aswell, any questions with the 620T and just give me a yell or PM as I had my fresh tropical in this tank for about 6 months before the conversion. Cheers.
  3. I've always just used normal household window cleaner due to the fact my hood would not let any chemicals in, also gives it a shining effect and clears the view up good.
  4. OMG lol, the size of that protein skimmer!!! Nice work with the pics, awesome looking tanks indeed.
  5. Hi there. My tank is still in cycle after 6 weeks. When my tank was first setup, I was told to use the bags of salt provided by the petshop at $25 dollars each . Once a month had passed I done a half water change with NSW and the salinty was excellent. I'm waiting for my fish to arrive next week and hopefully they will go in all good as gold after I've done a full chem check which tested ok. I washed my filter every day after being told to after 3 weeks of cycle, added a protein skimmer which dramatically increased the water quality.
  6. WOW. Most amazing looking fish I've ever seen. Are these tropical/cold?
  7. Thanks suphew. It came with a couple of free stones. How do I know when the stones are un useable anymore? Edit * Soz double post for some reason.

  9. Thanks suphew. The water level has stayed there all the time since installed yesterday and it is unbelieveable the amount of crap that it has extracted. This is a large lee's skimmer as you said. How often should I be cleaning the cup? Weekly ok? Another thing to add is that the water clarity is 100% better than less than 24 hours ago.
  10. Nps, thanks mate. It also saves you a little money aswell with success fees.
  11. Added a new skimmer today after being told I cannot plumb a sump into my tank due to not being able to drill holes in the tank. I had a glass expert here and said that if holes were drilled there was a high likely hood of the glass shattering due to temp differences and pressure difference (due to glass type) Skimmer is American made, seems to be very high quality and very strong plastic. Cost was normally $99.95 but scored it for only $60!!! It has been designed to accomodate 90 gallons and tank is only 130litres lol! At the time of the photo's being taken the skimmer was in operation for only 10 minutes and below you will be able to see how much crap has been extracted already. I purchased a new pump to run it, way overkill for what is needed but it has a variable dial which can control the airflow as a pose to changing it manually via the taps on the skimmer itself. Pumps: Skimmer: Crap collected in about 10-15mins: May have a little too much air coming in, however same water level now as in the pic hours ago.
  12. Hey Brian. Notice I asked you a question on one of your auctions. No probs with that. I think I'll have to move to the North Island to get some of these cheap priced frags. Cheers
  13. Wouldn't the water go stagnant? Poor fishies.
  14. Welcome aboard Steve. Very impressive reef you have indeed.
  15. Nice tank misnoma. Is that an oscar in one of your pic above, I can't quite tell.
  16. A much cheaper way of doing it as Pieces of wood here in Dunedin petshops (500mm long) are around $50 bucks. So if you can do it the free way....

    New Reef

Nice, I want a tank that size!
  18. Hey there, I have the AR620-T which is the taller version and another 40 litres (130) My tank was origonally purcahsed for the use or tropical freshwater with the assurance that if I decided to goto marine everything would be ok. Turns out its an absolute nitemare. It has no support to use a protien skimmer, or a sump for that matter if you wanted to go hardcore into marine. I had to change my lights to blue's, so the factory light tubes are useless for marine tropical fishes. However, if you are prepared to do regular water changes i.e. 5-10% per week and have access to NSW then go for it as this is going to be the way I'm going to do it. I will plumb in a protein skimmer on the right hand side of the trickle filter making things a little better. My tank is still in cycle at the moment, (6 weeks) and once my ammonia levels drop I will add fish and see how this goes. If the system packs up and deems unsuitable to sustain marine tropical I will most likely go cold marine and support local fish available from our habour, crays, mussels e.t.c. Good luck with it, but if you can stay away from the AR's as they truely are not suitable for marine, although your petshop will say so lol.
  19. Reserve will be around the $35k mark due to the 15% reserve range. Alot of coin.
  20. Thanks for the shilo. I wonder if I can slowly adjust my tank temp over a period of a week or so to suit?
  21. Yeah. I was looking at going straight to the creek or stream and turning over a few rocks to see if I could find any and try it out. :0
  22. Nice, how many litres is that?
  23. Hey again. I've got at the moment a 2000litre/perhour powerhead and another 500litre/perhour power head in my 130litre tank. The 500 is running one of those tubes with holes in them while the 2000 is running a hose directed over my rocks to keep them clean. And again I have the trickle filter outlet returning about 550litres/perhour. What I was wanting to know is, is this too much?
  24. Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had any fresh water crayfish in their tanks. I am looking at doing so but wonder if they will take the tropical heats of 26degC. I'm sure you can have them in cold water with goldfish, but not sure with tropical. Does anyone have any in a tropical tank?
  25. I personally thought the subsrat looked ok. I never looked closely at the substrat but mine has tiny shells in it. However can't you just use normal old sand from the beach?
