  1. Hey Billaney how old do they have to be before they start breeding and how many are recommended before we start breeding them. we have 2 that are about 6 - 7cms long but dont have there bristles yet. Any Info you can give me would be appreciated, or if you know of any good sites to find info on would be better.
  2. has anyone out there had any experience with Black Sharks??? (Scientific Name - Morulius chrysophekadion) As I have just aquired one and I would like some info from anyone that has had any. He's nearing 20cm in size. We just went out to get some food and gone no longer then 20mins and the lil bugger had jumped out of the tank jumping all over the floor with with my amazed cat in close watch (he wouldn't attack the fish). Here is a website that you can see one on. http://www.solodvds.com/remarks.asp?Nam ... hark&ID=16
  3. My friends brother has a Jaguar Cichlid and it is about 2-3inches shorter then their Oscar and it almost beat the life out of the Oscar, they got him a few months back as they already had the Female of the same. but have had the oscar for about a year now. and they have had to move him to another tank because of the aggressive Jaguar Cichlid.
  4. I have about 9 Tiger Barbs, 8 Widow Tetras, 2 Female Bristlenose Catfish, 1 Royal Whiptail Catfish, 2 Black Ghost Knives, 8 Glass Bloodfins Tetras, 2 Upside down catfish, 3 Salmon Tail Catfish (about 6-7" each) and they all live happily ever after in my 4ft tank.
  5. I have also found that if you get a lower spectrum globe for your tank that is specified as a all purpose globe (around the 36w) and not only for plant growth it should decrease the algea in your tank almost over night, (Well it did for mine anyway)
  6. If ya can get some of the swords to Australia I would love some..
  7. Nope its my bathroom, I took the photo with my phone and that was where the best light at the time was.
  8. My tank is a 4x2x2, and I have a few Plastic Amazon Swords and other plants, Driftwood (will have a Large peice of driftwood from one end to the other shortly, Picture Below). Royal Whiptails, Black Ghost Knifes, Widow Tetras, Tiger Barbs, Peppermint Bristlenose Catfish (My partner just got 2 of them), Glass Catfish, Not sure about the numbers but i would keep the school fish with atleast 10+ each of them, 2-3 BGK's, 4x RWT, 4x PB's, Sounds Like my tank, but I have 3 Salmon Tails Catfish about 6"-7" in mine but I have the rest of the above.
  9. No I'm an original from Australia, Friends of ours and ourselfs are going to start breeding livebearers, cichlids, Peppermint bristlenoses, Bristlenoses, and eventually once I get my collection going again Black Ghost knives (If yas have any info on breeding them it would be good). and some others, and sell them at the markets for at least 1/4 of the shop price. For example a Black Ghost Knife Fish I would sell for $10 AUD for a 10cm size, not $30-$40 aud for that size.

    Powerhead??

Perfect explanation LBB Best place to place a power head is at one of the ends towards the back, thats where I have found mine most usefull as it circulates the water more efficiently. I recommend them as they help provide oxygen to the water. I have the 1000LPH and the 500LPH in my 4ft tank. Here is some pictures of our Powerhead Filters. This one is a Minature Powerhead filter that circulates 200LPH This one is a Pro Aqua Multi-function Internal Power Filter that circulates 1000LPH This is an Aqua One, circulating 500LPH
  13. This is my 2 Sailfin Mollys, The white one is HUGE ready to pop any hour/minute/second? anyway here is some pics, sorry about the quality they were taken on my phone. I only have these 2 females and one male but hundreds of fry from the last batch or two, which i am keeping about 5 females and 2 males that I like out of them. I hope you like them, and if you live in Brisbane QLD Aust, then I will have heaps for sale soon.
  14. NICE hey all, Your split tail or possibly liar tail as they are called here in Australia is beautiful my missus would be peaved about that. We dont get them often in our LFS's or if we do their about $5.00 each (OUCH) although we have had a new LFS open up recently which in my opinion sell the best fish I have seen in a long time, and they are getting in fish that most appeal to the Aquarium Fans out there, they are cheap and know there job well. But they are still getting on their feet so hopefully they get bigger and better. Anyways NICE fish and good luck breeding them.
  15. It's lucky we live in a single story with concrete slab but dont worry about the weight, our friend has made the same stand for two 6ft x 2.5ft x 2.5ft tanks and its still stand after about 5 years.
  16. Hi here is a picture of a stand that a friend has made for us. It has 2 x 4ft tanks, one on top of the other. Each tank is 260L, 4ft x 2ft x 2ft. The stand is 190cm high and 125cm wide We will be varnishing the timber at a later date and adding some wood around the tops of the tanks so the light does not annoy us. My partners tank is on the top and it contains hundreds of guppy, swordtail, and sailfin Molly fry, as well as some adults and teens Sorry about the quality of the pictures they were taken with my camera phone..
  17. Bristlenose catfish will sort out your algae problem. As for your tank, have you got another tank to put your fish in?? If so you can clean your tank out with hot water and let it dry out in the sun for 2 days which will kill the algae in you tank. I have done this many times with excellant results, I thought I would try it after I had problems with algae in my out door ponds.
  18. I agree with every thing you all say. But I agree more with Whitecrust, That when there is a death in your family (tank) it is a terrible experience which does make you angry. I was extremely angry with myself when I killed my Elephant Nose Fish. But I have learnt my lesson and that there are other ways of treating for diseases, parasites, fungus etc. As for your Elephant nose whitecrust I know how you feel I am still kicking myself. Dont take to heart what some people say, Mine was beginning to be hand fed and coming up to me and swimming around my hand. I agree they are smart fish and they like to keep the peace in the tank. eg mine would stop my 2 Black Ghost Knives from fighting when I first got them, and he would look after my youngest Knife before he passed away from high Amonia in the tank, almost as though he new he was sick. RIP So get another one b4 your memorys fade from you and treat it the same and you will have another friendly fish.
  19. hi sorry about your loss, I have also recently lost mine to stupidity. I was treating for white spot on my clown loaches and didnt read the destructions right and treated at the fullest dose my tank could handle instead of a halved dose, he was the pride of the tank. As for your loss I can not think off any reason he would die, other then asking you if you have used any other other chemicals eg. Fly spray near the tank or something else that may have infected the water unless you have charcoal in your tank, then that would not be the reason. Here is some info I have on them through my own experiences: 1. It is not true that you cannot have Black Ghost Knives in your tank with them (before anyone dissagrees I know they are both electrical fish), mine where best friends so to say. 2. You do not need to give them live foods all the time, frozen blood worm and brine shrimp are perfectly OK. (But they do love to chase live brine shrimp and hunt for them in the gravel) Mine got live food when I had it. 3. A slightly higher PH is better for them (6.8 - 6.9) 4. Temperature around the 27-28 degrees 5. They love to hide under Drift wood or in caves. (Mine was very active, like yours Whitecrust) 6. They are the most watched fish from friends and family. 7. Will be getting another one ($35 - $40 AUD) Anyways I believe many people will dissagree with that but I DONT CARE, that is from my own experiences. So sorry for your loss again and I hope this does not stop you from getting another one.
  20. sorry all I ment 1 teaspoon per gal, I'm quite sick at the moment and I have alot of things running through my head. Scaleless Fish do dont like salt that much, well thats what the net says about black Ghost Knife fish and I have 2 of them and I also had a Elephant Nose fish and they also are scaleless.
  21. We have paid $75 AUD each for two 6mm glass 122x46x46cm or 4x1.5x1.5 ft, 250L tanks. We also had a wood stand made up so one sits on top of the other with none of the front of the tank hidden (will have pictures soon). By the way, I'm 23yo and I can use both metric and imperial messurements, as I am a keen Radio control Plane enthusiast, and we use both systems of messurement (weird I know).
  22. Hi. Rock salt is good to put in to your tank every so often, but becareful as some fish will react baddly to it. Most neons, Live Bearers, and Tetras. enjoy a bit of salt in their water, not sure about Discus and Angels though. Rock or Sea Salt is a useful additive if you have any fungul or parasitic problems in your tank or on your fish. If I can remember corectly it is around 1 tablespoons per litre of water but I would only use about half that dose every month or two. We have used it to help treat White Spot on my Glass Bloodfin Tetras and Clown Loaches and it did help, but i also used a half dose of a White Spot specified chemical as well as increasing my temperature to 30 degrees, as I have some scaleless fish in my tank aswell. Anyways your tetras should love it, but keep asking around your LFS they should let you know for sure.
  23. hey the bugs are probably weavels, as for the food should be ok as everyone has said. Mix it with some fresh stuff and some dried fresh bread crumbs and fish love it.
  24. Becarefull if you get a clown loach as they are prone to white spot, as I have recently found out, as I treated for it killed my favorite Elephant Nose Fish (NOT HAPPY). Although they have rid my tank of snails, i would recommend putting them into a hospital tank before putting them into your main tank for atleast 1month to make sure they have no white spot.
  25. not sure of your diagnosis LBB but you could be right. also try a quick salt bath for her my help her a bit, but use aquarium salt or rock salt as normal table salt is not good for fish.
