    Filter media!

2 of the filters take cartridges that already contain carbon, the other filter has the carbon in a separate pouch that you add. I don't know if I can buy without the carbon; I'll have to check that out! Caper
  3. Very nice Caryl, this fish are beautiful and HUGE! Caper
  4. My filter was off in my goldfish tank the other day/night. I have no idea how long it was off but before I did water change I tested the ammonia & it was almost .25. and all that is in the tank (29 gallon) is 2 goldfish & 3 ottos. Caper
  5. Very, very nice Will the bottom one keep those colors as they are? Caper
  6. I don't remember  the first thing I did was check to see if that was the plug that shuts off if you hit the switch (on wall). I remember switching the bar back on but I don't know if I originally shut it off or not :-? :-? But the filter has been working fine, since it has been back on and with no power outage I can't think of anything else other than the cat managing to step on it. Ginger might be heavy enough I know I feel it when she stands on my chest. 8) How long do hang on filters usually last? Caper
  7.      Do you think that somehow the cat could have hit the switch??? Caper
  8. A big bubble...ah, how does that happen? Caper
  9. You leave the carbon out till you are finished the treatment. Put the carbon back in afterwards if you want to use it again. Caper
  10. Nope no real plants. Yes it is working now. When I cleaned it, there was nothing in it that I could see anyway. Caper

    Filter media!

Every two weeks because of the carbon. Caper
  12. Don't forget to take out the carbon if you have any in your filter. Caper
  13. The only things that were plugged into it were the heater, filter, and light. Oh, I also had a small lamp plugged into it (which I moved today). There are a few more outlets that I can use on it but don't. Therefore, I don't think it overheated. Caper

    Filter media!

Hmmm...couldn't think of what else to call this subject :-? I cleaned my filter today (all hang ons). I was one filter short. The whisper filter has 2 cartridges that are plastic, slip on white media that you fill with carbon. The other cartridges for the other filters have carbon in them (it was one of these I was short). Anyway, rather than only have the blue media on one side, I took one of the filters that were for the whisper filter (new) and used it. I didn't bother to put carbon in it. It didn't quite fit in the slot. So, I'm guessing this is ok???? Caper
  15. When I got up today, was checking my tanks (today was water change & cleaning day). The filter was OFF in my goldfish tank! I have no idea how long or why. I checked the ammonia and it was just short I'd say of registering .25. Anyway, when I did the water change I took out any extra bucket. My power wasn't off as my clock in the bedroom wasn't blinking. The other 2 tanks' filters were running. The only thing I didn't think of was to check to see if the power bar was turned off. I was wondering if it was possible that one of the cats somehow managed to stand on it just the right way to shut it off, or is that being totally ridiculous. Caper

  18. That's what I was wondering too. Have you tried feeding peas? This may help. Caper
  19.    What a neat idea? How long have you had them in the tanks? Will/did anything leech out? I checked out your other pics on photobucket See you're a fan of ER as well Caper
  20. Thanks all Ray bought it for me today :bounce: :bounce: In the directions that came with it, it said to add water conditioner to the tank before adding in new water But I will do as you folks suggested, add to some water mix then add to tank. The adaptors wouldn't fit my taps (kitchen or bathroom). I'm going to see if I can get something at a hardware store to make it work. Maybe I can get some kind of fitting to allow the adaptors that came with it to work? Or would that not be a good idea? Caper
  21. goldfish, cory, barb, red eye tetra, ottos...at present! I thought all fish were, thought I read it somewhere :-? Caper
