Greetings from Calgary, Alberta As some of you know, I'm out here visiting Tracy, Matthew, and my precious little grandson Cody. :bounce: :bounce: I LOVE BEING HERE WITH THEM Everybody is snoozing so I thought I'd pop in here. Went to a couple of pet stores...DROOOOOOOOOOOOL! Such a variety of fish...even got to see bristlenoses (not very big though). One of the stores we went to was much bigger with lots of fish tanks (healthy looking fish, and clean tanks). AND OH, saw a small freshwater stingray COOOOOOL :bounce: :bounce: They had soooo many different things that I can't get back home, from various test kits, filters, driftwood, fantastic variety of substrate...**excuse me, have to wipe the drool** Caper

Is it possible that the fish that recently died were already damaged by the high ammonia and that is why you're still having deaths?? Sorry for your losses I had trouble with test kits one time. But, the opposite happened, I was getting high readings of ammonia even after doing a large water change. Bought new test kit, things have been fine! Caper

If you're not certain, why not just put off your water change? When was the last water change? Caper

oh Mumzy that is so sad about the dog I believe that most animals have the ability to "snap" including the "human" variety! Why a well behaved well loved animal would suddendly attack, a mystery (unless illness or provoked)...just like when you hear stories of the sweet family man next door who suddenly kills his family, "snap". These sad and horrendous things happen and I believe there are times for reasons we may never know. But for the situations I just mentioned, something happened because it is not "normal" for the lack of a better term for these things to happen in some situations. Years ago I had a little Boston Bull, he was a real sook. But let a stranger come to the door, or car and he would bark until told to stop would he bite if given the opportunity, I don't know. But I do believe that people who are cruel to animals should be punished. I also believe that depending on the circumstances around an animal attacking need to be looked at carefully. Sadly it maybe too late for the dog in the video. Caper

I have a Penn Plax auto feeder that was part of my Christmas present from my son. But I still don't have it on a tank as yet. Tad nervous about trying it and can't make up my mind which tank to try it on! Caper
