  1. Yeah well Alan, that's a bit different to just having a penny soaking in the tank.
  2. Dairy quality ones that they use on farms are good. Good size and easy to read too.

    hot n cold

The epiplaty, aplocheilus and panchax, go for the top tanks Barrie.
  4. Hey thanks heaps for that guys, I'm sure Tim will buzz when he reads this thread. Most of the work that is done to get this out like this, appears to go unappreciated by most, so it is great to see this public forum of appreciation. Thanks guys. By the way, mistakes can and do happen, but if you haven't recieved yours yet, hit me with an email so we can figure out what went wrong and rectify the problem.
  5. Change of light I'd say Paul. They will still be there, only down in their dinner.
  6. Yet we use, or use to use, copper in our Notho tanks to ward of velvet, the scourge of Nothos.
  7. Another thing to help cut down the stress factor Paul is to keep the fish in the dark, and stop peeking at them every two minutes. Normally when fish are obtained from a breeder, they do not have the human contact that some other souces have. Don't feed for at least 24 hours unless you have live food like R/R mozzie larvae. Not available this far up tho.
  8. Oh no you didn't Paul. You open the bag, clip it to the side of the tank, play xbox, then start the regime of adding the water. THEN NET THE FISH FROM THE BAG TO THE TANK. Throw away water in bag, DON'T add it to the aquarium.

    fish coffins

Definately to small for my Pacus. But then finding them is too late also.
  10. Sounds like a strip down and rebuild to me, don't mess around and wait for the enivitable to happen. It WILL happen at the worst time. What are the colour of the joints? Especially near wher the leak is?
  11. If they decide to send it away, DEMAND a replacement till the other is fixed. Have you tried running it with no meia? Just pipes and filter canister?
  12. If your tank is leaking like that it points towards failure of the joint. Be careful or you will have a major. How old is the tank and what is it's history??
  13. It is not doing the job it was sold to do. Failure to do so results in replacement with new pump or full money refund. From the shop where it was bought. NOT, shop credit. They have to fight it out with the producers, not you.
  14. Garlic keeps your friends at arms length. So maybe that works for the fish too. If they had arms of course.

    Amazon Tank

Once again, Freshwest would have to say "Yay" or "Nay"
  16. Name and shame them Caryl. That's better than saying these are the only ones that have paid. I personally think that the Presidents of the clubs are to blame for not whipping the others along. It is no use saying "Yay!! Look at me!! I'm the Presient of the club and I don't have to really do anything!!!" Bad mistake. If they don't do anything, nor does the rest of the crew. So come on you Presidents, get off your collective chuffs and give Caryl and Jane a fair go. She has a hard enough job without the clubs making it harder.

    Amazon Tank

It has SOOOOOOO dramatically changed that you wouldn't recognise it. BUT It does look fantastic, as those that know it will vouch for. Don't ask, and I won't lie!! Maybe Freshie will fill in the gaps for you.
  18. Yikes!! Forgot!!! The patch goes on the water side of the tank.
  19. adodge, that is all very well, but it appears that they also have to do a scan of the number before you leave to make sure that it is logged in. I have in the very recent past, had two packets of fish sent up from Wellington. Niether had the numbers tracked. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
  20. Short answer is yes. I have several like that. Clear of the glue at the back and floor of the tank joint. Cut a piece of glass about 150mm either side of the damage. Smallest would be 300mm wide, widening out more as the angle of the damage increases. Make sure that the patch and back pane are clean, and ample glue to all sides of the patch and a run of glue down the crack. Force together, exclude as much air as possible. Cove glue on the side of the patch and the base. Leave to set and fill.. Can look real crap but can be disguised with plants or driftwood.
  21. Leave it there for a fortnight Rogan. Often when ppl are selling peat, they just check to make sure there are eggs there and sell it as a fortnights collection. You will know if they are using the peat as it will appear all over the tank as the fish dive into it to do their thing.. Stu recommends that gravel be used as well as the peat, as in their excitment, much "pressing" is done outside of the pot, on the gravel. Treat this as a bonus, but when syphoned out, you will have "clean" eggs, and know exactly how many you have.
  22. You can use vics vapor rub if you like. Just depends what you want to use it for and why
  23. You use to be able to get the same things sent to you years ago from an advert in the TFH There was a shop in Otahuhu that had a little shop across the road from their main shop. After you had paid a princely sum, 5/-, you trooped across the road to see his "Real Amazonian Piranha" tank. Yeah Right!! All these mummified specimen. Felt ripped off, but I guess that is why you had to leave the main shop to see them. In case you threw a hissy-fit. Or it gave you a chance to slinkoff knowing that you had been duped. The same guy who had this shop, actually sometimes reads and avertises here on the forum. Hey Dave??

    Stupid power cut

When the power goes off on a filter like that, when it restarts, the cycle has been broken and in fact, you could have your tank wiped out as the filter, literally becomes a cess-pit. Hope you do get away with it, but keep an eye open for any problems that may occur.
