  1. By the way Don't forget to change the fish you have in your sig to three neon tetras Alan
  2. YES Breakaway, how many "helpers" said to remove the fish from the tank. To either kill it, or, at least to quarantine it. Sometimes I wonder why we try to give advice. I really do. That fish you saw eating the neon, will prolly contract what was wrong with the sick one, and believe me, or don't, that wont have been the only fish that was munching out on the diseased fish. We DO tell you these things for a reason. We've been there, done that. And stiff bikkies if you don't like what I am writing addressed to you. I'm sure some of the others will be thinking the same thing too. Disappointed. Alan
  3. Hey !!! That's different, nice looking shark. Alan
  4. Mine hibernate outside underwater for about 2 months So that's a long time to hold there breathe They actually absorb oxygen from the water up their rectum, So I'm told. They sure don't have a snorkel, and they don't come up. So I'm not arguing THAT point. By the way They don't need a heater or heat lite As long as they have access to the sun they are fine. Also a correct diet. Don't see the little ones in nature in a heated environment. Alan
  5. They are just like an Undertank Heating Pad Trouble is the thermostat sensor Made of copper (I think) BAD for fish You'd have to figure a way to control the heat another way Alan

    Big Catfish?

There was a chappy in Auckland that had great expectations of breeding RTC. His efforts failed, I know at least one of them died. A friend of mine here in Whakatane bought the other, and brought it back in a bath, with another bath, g-cramped to that. Stopping once on the way to do a water change. He only kept it for a short period, before on-selling it to Wet Pets, Palmy. I also think that they, Wet pets, have lost one or two over the years Tanks too small in my opinion. They were brought in illegally by a person that shall remain unnamed, but was a legal importer, tall, and with a beard. He was also the one that brought in some"bitterlings" under the false name of "asian rainbows". Alan
  10. Does he still do goldies?? Everytime I make a trip over to his shop it is closed. Has he finished trading? Pity if he has. He DID have good fish too. Alan

    Gender

Actually, they are a piece of cake to sex. Look for the body shape, females are plumper, and have a look at the leading edge of the pectoral fins, males are thicker, longer and rougher. In nature and at HiWay Fisheries, they spawn in caves they tunnel into the side of the pond. Yes you can sex them. The difficulty is having a group to be able to do the comparisons. Alan
  16. Haven't you got rid of that yet?????? Alan
  17. It grows in cuttings up the Coromandel. Lovely red flakey clay. Lot cheaper to get it there than a LFS Alan

    TANK REPAIR

Hi arch, the easiestway to fix that is to do a patch. May not look the best, but depends where the chip is. Cut the bead of old glue out from the corner, carefully clean and dry the area, cut a piece of galass and silicone it into place taking care the patch has glue around the whole of it's perimeter. Glue the patch on the WATER side. Smooth of the surplus glue and fill it up. No sweat. Alan
  24. Breakaway, What is your neon worth? What is the rest of your tank inhabitants worth? Have you got a "q" tank? Make up your mind from these questions. Alan
