i dont know. usually it takes awhile for nitrite to affect fish, dont know whats caused your poor little clown to die. there must be something wrong for so many of your fish to have died. i hope you find out whats going on soon. and hope your tang gets better soon. bonnie

has the nitrite only just risen? any possible causes for this? a dead fish could still be hidden away decaying, maybe this could be causing some problems?

good questions control. will be interesting to see if we can figure out whats wrong with the poor little guy. one more question to add.... how long has he been acting this way?

i find my clowns are hardier than my goldfish! so no, clowns do not just die.

when did he last eat? has he been eating? any other symptoms? everyone else in the tank ok? any changes to the tank recently? its always sad when your fishies start to get a bit sick

2x perc clowns (trinity and serenity) about 6 cats eye snails mushrooms and zoos 300ltr set up, 200ltr tank 100ltr sump. cant wait to stock it up!!!

awesome tanks! cracker, how tall is your tank? looks like you'd need tongs if something fell down to the bottom! very nice look though

not me, but one of my friends wanted to get them, decided not to after finding out how much chillers cost! she wanted cold water seahorses as they are meant to be easier to keep than the tropical ones. problem is it gets too hot here in nelson during summer, they'd cook!

thanks guys. dont have to worry about anaenomes yet , thank god, fish are hard enough at the moment! as the tank water is still quite dirty from the dead rock cycle i did, ive got floss in the sump collecting floaties. i change it every 2nd day (so theres no excess nitrate buid up).

foam pad got clogged up too easily, so ive tried the heater gaurd idea. i cut a strip off the gaurd and siliconed it over the gap. seems very good, havnt tried it running yet as the silicone has to set. will try to get some photos tomorrow. thanks for all your help!

thanks for the ideas guys. today i rubber banded some cut up fluval foam pads to the powerheads. they filled up with rubbish pretty quickly though,bugger it.
