  1. hi bainorama, were are you located? best thing is to go and see someone who has a tank that has been established for a while. get some water (the old stuff from a water change, some sand and a couple pieces of rock. (or give that person some of your rock to be placed in the tank or sump to seed it. getting these items will help you a lot starting up a new tank. this way you will have a mulitude of micro organizsm allready. i've collected over 400ltr for AW so far for his new setup.
  2. well that was stupid, just don't let your wife see your calculation.
  3. oh come on i have added clams and corals at a much earlier age. especialy leathers grew very well. just don't add fish. nitrates come from somewhere they just don't apear from nowhere in a new tank and should be broken down in some form or an other. get some rock and/or sand, water from a friend and you are able to get started within days not weeks. i've doe it for 4 times in NZ without any drawbacks on the other hand what filters are you washing? there shoudn't be really any in my opinion.
  4. also had to sell my beloved clown trigger, was eating AW corals. well not just his, mine also but we wont mention that here.
  5. whatb about all your corals dying, was that before or after you used the phospate killer???
  6. put a larger clam in your tank as clams will utilise nitrates as food. also i don't agree that nitrates should ever go as high as 40 or more. if thats the case then something is already wrong in the system, also with such high nitrates your hair algae will go mental. just ensure that nitrites and ammo is own to nothing.
  7. free corals, free coral or coral frags anyone, i have plenty, not mine but hey. also cookie extreme coral parking lot. $7 for acro's per month $9 for medium leathers, and $50 plus for aptasia. blastos's and any other unusual corals the parking is free, but no warranty to knife damage.
  8. come and get some of my frags aswell, thats with flatworms of course.
  9. hi fay, i would recommend to learn how to dive in NZ. if one can dive here you can dive everywhere. many newbees learn diving in the clear warm tropics only to drown in colder waters. i have saved a few in my years. start now and you will have an awesome holiday without spending most of your holiday time studying for your course. you could go diving instead.
  10. cut it, propagate it make it go into survival overdrive!! read anthony calfo's article on xenia regarding lifespan, sexual maturity and growth. i cut mine now almost every week and the growth rate is exceptional. but hey if your's die i can always sell you some of mine.
  11. i went and got some salifert f/exit, but was to scared to use it. not the medication but the possible effects afterwards from the dying flatworms. so i waited, and waited and waited. nowadays i still have them but in very small proportions. but hey its up to you.
  12. where do all these tanks going to be? in your house or garage? or in a seperate fish room? if so why don't you conect them all or at least most together and use one quality pump and filter. less breakdowns and cheaper in the longrun if not rightaway! ask some people like reef in the saltwater section as he has his import / quarantine setup this way. all the best. don't buy to cheap it will cost a lot more in the longrun.
  13. sorry AW, but you can't buy it. your floor would have no chance!! plus you would have to sell those new 150w M/H again. on the other hand 20mm glass is superstrong for this wavebox of yours.
  14. stunning reef tank  http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 761390.htm some people are such dreamers, wonder what the anemone's are, aptaisa? and all this for just $4500.
  15. i always wondered about you. just hope you don't wear it at work
  16. who said that? your hairdresser? or is it because all the crappy plaster and gibb is finally out?
  17. after 60 days using zeovit my acropora's looking better then ever! sorry about the sharpness of the pictures, still trying to work out how that #$@^ camera works. maybe one day i'll read the instuctions. maybe
  18. same coral in different positions in the tank
  19. just showed reef two of my monti. capricornis from totaly different spots in the tank. one could think they were two different species. the one directly under the 150w m/h in 15cm of water is very light in colour with purple growth were the second sits next to the return pipe with very little light at all. that ones colour is dark brown with white growth around the edges. the growth rate seems to be about the same. (fast that is, bye bye calcium)
  20. hi Layton, its actually Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry not Fisheries.
  21. oh stop greasing!!!! everybody can have a great tank if one has enough cash and more importantlives in a country thats lets you import all sorts of coral and fish. 20 years ago in switzerland one could get blue ringed octopus, green mambas and all sorts of fish and corals. if you live in a country that allows everything in and you have some spare cash even you can achive and enjoy an awsome reeftank. sorry steve no harm intended, great tank by the way.
  22. why not? some montipora do not need lots of light. medium to low light is more then enough, if you don,t believe me come around see my tank. will, post some pic's in the next couple of days of the same monti under differend light.

  24. i would like to belive the results. but mag 1500, cal 500 and kh 15.5 seems very unrealistic!! i used to go without a water change for 5-6 month but was never able to sustain such high parameters. if some body is able to please let me know how.
