  1. Hi Helena, sorry for the late reply, I lost the posting and didn't realise it was so long ago. Anyway, I have an aquaone 880 same as the one you looked at. It is big but I think they may have a smaller one available ask at the shop, I'm sure I have seen a smaller version. Good luck.
  2. Hi Helena We have a corner tank which is great and does not distort the fish. It may make them look a bit bigger as the glass is thick but doesn't alter their shape. Ours is quite deep from the front to the back corner which makes it hard to do anything in the back of the tank, especially with short arms. Go for it, they look great in the right position. Good luck.
  3. My discus are slightly off their food and are pooping long white cotton wool. Is this caused by worms? How often do you worm them. They are about 6 months old and in a 300 litre planted community tank with tetras, loaches, zebra danios and now a Saimese algae eater. 1 discus died so I tried to do an autopsy on it and all this white slimy stuff came out but apart from that it looked Ok.
  4. If I remember they already have 2 filters running in their old tank so taking one out and replacing it shouldn't leave the tank uncycled as the remaining filter is still working.
  5. Hi, you could take one of your filters out of the old tank and put it into the new tank to speed things up and put the new filter into the old tank. Hope that makes sense :-? That way you transfer all the good bacterias.
  6. Is it alright to have SAE's in with discus? Mine are out growing the small tank and need room to swim freely. They are active fish and will this be too much for the discus, I already have loaches in with the discus and they seem OK. There is also BBA in the discus/community tank which the SAE's should control.
  7. How do SAE's breed & how do you tell the male from the female? I have two about 8cms long and rather fat in condition that seem to be doing a bit of dancing around the tank today, normally the big one is quite hostile to the smaller one which swims away but things are different today. Could there be romance in the water???
  8. Thanks everyone for your help, I thought it might be more technical like sending fish, but you make it so simple.
  9. Can anyone help me with a safe and cheap way to send tropical aquarium plants by mail or courier and how to pack them? Its just ambulia and hygrophila.
  10. If you are going to get weed from a local pond or stream make sure it doesn't have leeches in it or any other unwanted nasties. Place it in a white icecream container of water with some plain salt for a while and see what comes out. Do this a few times until it is clean.
  11. Any suggestions what I should do then?
  12. No I'm not sure, but this one fish is sooooo fat and has a sort of fluffy stuff out its rear end at the mo and has been flirting with the others. Its is a colbalt blue colour but the only difference I can see between this fish and the others is that one fin is more rounded.
  13. Hi Leonie, go to Wonderworld Pet centre down Clayton road and ask Ardie, as Harold makes tanks to what size you want and is quite reasonable and saves all the mess. Good Luck with your tanks.
  14. How do you tell the difference between the male and female dwarf gouramis? :-? I have 2 neon's, 2 cobalt blue, and 2 red/orange with bluey fins all dwarf in a community tank. One of the neons keeps building a bubble nest and is aggressive around it naturally but the others are trying to help him. We had a visitor yesterday who commented that the female cobalt was full of eggs and I should move her to a breeding tank, so I moved her to a small 20 litre tank I had along with the bubble nest and the other cobalt who seems to be building also. Have I done the right thing as he is being agressive to her? She was hanging around with one of the neons. What should I do???
  15. Welcome to the site. I have a communtiy tank with discus and all the fish get along extremely well. I have mainly tetras and a few dwarf gourami and two bristlenose. I have been told you have to be careful what you put with them and angles are a definite nono due to worm problems. I'm no expert but there are others here that are very helpful including some discus breeders. Good luck with you new setup.
  16. The neon tetras I put into the new tank on Saturday started dying from Neon Tetra Disease so I treated them with Formalin on Tuesday, the survivors are fine but now my rummynose tetras have white spot. Can I treat again now or do I have to wait the 10 days as stated on the bottle. I don't have any whitespot cure at the moment.
  17. I've got this on my heater fittings as well. Its good to know that is normal.
  18. Yeah, I put in that cycle stuff in when I setup the tank and planted it. Can you have to many plants? They're a bit like the fish and all have my name on them, how can I resist!!!! You can't not go into the shop when your car just takes you there, that would be rude. I tell myself just a little look. The only way to restrain myself is to remind myself what will happen to those poor fishies if I get too many too soon, patience. Its sooooooooo hard to resist their little looks. Thanks for reinforcing the patience.
  19. Thanks guys for the support. The water has now cleared and I have added some fish, some lovely neon and rummy nose tetras. I will have to have more patience as I wanted to bring home all sorts of fish. I'm hoping to have a communtiy tank with some discus as a focal point.
  20. I set up a tropical freshwater tank (300L) at the weekend and the water has a white cloudiness to it. There was some dust from the noodles in the filter which I had forgotten to wash out and I think it is this that is causing the cloudiness. What should I be checking and what can I do to clear the water. I have treated twice with Accu-clear.

    Hi

Welcome Robert, Its great to see someone else whose into the goldfish and fancies at that. I've been keeping my eyes open for some ryukin but haven't found any yet. What type of tanks are you going to setup? Cheers Kazz
  22. You could try boiling your gravel and wood which should kill the leeches.
  23. Hi, I'm from Rotorua and I'm addicted to fish. There I've said it, I'm addicted. I have a small tropical tank which is a community tank and 5 goldfish ponds outside which my husband made for me one Christmas. The trouble is I just keep buying fish and now I have just bought 2 more tanks and need to fine somewhere to put them. I'm working on Hubby to make the stands for me, but it could take some time as he's pretty busy. I think I will put some fancy goldfish in them as most of my goldfish are comets and shubs. This is a great site, but are there many members who like the goldfish as I do? Cheers Kazz
