    fish loss

Bought 9, lost two chromis, one leapt out of the tank, one ended up sleeping on the intake of a stream.
  2. 1x300W heater for 380L, it's almost never on.
  3. They didn't, but the internets did - I have no shrimp
  4. I picked this dude up in the weekend... so very silly and awesome.
  5. I have to say.. the reactions in here are interesting given many of the people in this thread also oohed and aahed over Jimmy's tank, which was of a similar size from memory. Or is it just the fluro stones that turn you off? And.. "The expression on their poor little faces" - Oh dear
  6. Given the size of the tank, and the waterchanges you would do, at $5/10L bottled water could be an option - you're looking at 700 litres of water for the $350 a unit would cost... Especially if you're able to get NSW most of the time.

    Pieman

It looks awesome (and makes me want a flame hawkfish even more dammit!)
  9. Stop adding fish, and wait a few weeks.
  10. Stay away from the anemone's in this tank... they're probably one of the harder marine lifeforms to keep alive - and the clownfish doesn't need it.
  11. I was thinking two or three As cracker said, if you ran a small hang on back skimmer, some live rock, and possibly a powerhead for circulation (depending on the circulation of the skimmer), you should be okay to get started on a very small scale.
  12. Yoinks... have you tried some filter wool under the pump? Other thing to try, is take the pump out, submerse it in the tank and turn it on, make sure it's totally silent just pumping water (i.e. the impellor/needlewheel isn't loose on the shaft). If that's all quiet, you just have a vibration issue, which should be findable without too much trouble by pressing on different parts of the plastic and seeing if it goes away.

I think he might be talking about the coraline covered stream

    New Tank!

That's awesome I think I'm going to have to do something similar with mine.
  16. This one didn't look amazing at HFF, however it cheered up and certainly looked happy as when wedged under the heater today, and even in the place I moved it to as well. It's now lying face down in the place I originally placed it, and the odd tentacle pops up on occasion.. I'm planning to leave it for now, and see if it sorts itself out, no point doing much else right now I think The female clown keeps trying to get it to turn over, so maybe that'll help hehe
  17. Hur... I spoke too soon It seems that wherever I put it, it just refuses to grab onto anything, so once the clown plays in it a bit it works itself loose, and then ende up cruising around the tank in the current till I kill the streams anyone got any tips for placing these things so they actually grip?

    New Tank!

That looks great! Wasp - is that a Deltec MCE600 skimmer? if so could you possibly take some closeup photos of your overflow/skimmer design?
  19. Ahh, that makes sense.. I have rescued it from behind the heater, it had actually righted itself, and was looking happy with it's foot wedged between the heater and the sand. I took a lesson from that and recreated it with some live rock, and moved the anemone to it.. From what I have seen it's happily digging itself further into the smallish gap I gave it, so maybe it'll stay put for a bit longer
  20. There was a pbt there for $170, didn't pay much attention to it. When you say "place" am I supposed to just gently coax it's base into a hole/crevice/etc/etc and hold it there till it seems to want to hold on? It seems that otherwise I would need to leave the streams off for a period of time, or it's just going to float away
  21. Interesting... I picked up an anemone yesterday from HFF in albany, It didn't seem particularily keen to grab onto any rocks in my tank, so I generally boxed it in with some rock to stop it getting blown away by the pumps. I get up this morning to find it's somehow wedged itself under my heater, and it totally upside down, yet still looking somewhat healthy (I have a feeling my heater hasn't been on in months to be honest). So.. what's the trick to persuade such animals to hang onto a rock as opposed to just floating around in the current playing chicken with streams etc? The anemone has a bright red base (about 2" across) and greeny/yellow tentacles around 1.5-2" long. I would take a pic except my camera went walkabout in the weekend (silly friends).
  22. If we're not allowed to edit in here.. I wonder what Alan had to hide
