  1. Alan, Are there eggs in the peat? Andrew.
  2. Hmmm.... Some difference in NZKA numbers. Must look in to that. Andrew.
  3. Folks, So, I've re-joined the NZKA and am in the market for some fish. Does anyone have spare F. sjoestedti, F. gardneri, A. striatum, Cyno (Aust). nigripinnis or C. whitei available to a fairly experienced fishkeeper and long time killifish person? If anyone is in Palmerston North then that'd be even better, regardless of the species... Andrew, NZKA 143.
  4. Hi, > Just wandering if anyone off here keeps these amazing plants? I just got back from a NZ Carnivorous Plant Society (NZCPS) meeting in Auckland, featuring two talks by the author Stewart MacPherson. http://www.nzcps.co.nz/ There's a fairly enthusiastic group of growers in NZ (including some in the Hamilton area) and many species and varieties are available. PM me if you have any specific questions. Andrew.
  5. Folks, I haven't been around much lately but will be happy to help out with the formation of a new club or the re-establishment of the old PNAS. I have the library, records and trophies etc taking up space in my spare room so would be keen to pass them on once the new entity becomes part of the FNZAS. Andrew.
  6. Arisaema ringens. They're in active growth right now, not real good for shipping. Andrew.
  7. Zev said... > I have a few young male Epiplatys dageti available... I'm not in a position to look after any killies at the moment, thanks. Great fish though. One day... Andrew.
  8. Folks, If anyone wants a large (and/or perhaps a small one or two) of the greener form of Tiger Lotus then I could arrange to have them at Stellas on Saturday. There could, technically, if it wasn't frowned upon be available some long stringy plants that do well in deep tanks. If you know what I mean. ;-) PM me and I'll make it happen, first in first served. My 4ft tropical community tank is looking a bit empty, fish-wise, these days (nothing has been added for several years) so if anyone has some spare suitable critters floating about then that'd be cool but not required. Anyhow, hope you all enjoy the visit to PN. Stellas tanks are pretty impressive IMHO. Andrew.
  9. OK. I think everyone who has posted a comment on this should go back and read the whole thread. There're some pretty harsh things being said and I'm not sure the people saying them would want to have grown up in a society where those ideals were the norm. I'm sure if you (yes you!) did the maths you'd find that being on some sort of government sponsored welfare does not equal crime. Some people are crap, a whole bunch aren't. Deal with it and don't try to put people in boxes based on some imagined socieo-economic trivia. For the record, I believe in the government investing money in education and health and that that'll sort out a whole lot of people who beleive they're disadvantaged for whatever reason. I guess that means I'm to be considered 'liberal' when looking at the current right-thinking (oh, the market will sort it out -- for others) point of view. I'm constantly annoyed by people who grew up under a left minded ideal but now have some money and want to exclude others. It's just rude. Yes, I am a member of a union. Andrew.
  10. Hey, Gouldians aren't that rare, generally they're available if you know who to talk to. Many good pet stores carry them (Wet Pets in Palmerston North had some last time I looked). They NEED specific things though and are not just brightly coloured zebbies. Not a good choice unless you know what you're doing. They're expensive for a reason. Andrew.

  12. Gannet said... > i want to get a light hood off ira but i cant get it, is there > anyone traveling from wellington to tauranga, (or rotorua, > hamilton etc) that could pic it up for me? Faran (Blueandkim) is apparently travelling from the Wellington area to Palmerston North on Easter Friday. Richard Littin is travelling from Hamilton to Palmerston North on the same day, back on the Monday. They will bein the same room at several times. That any use? Andrew.
  13. markoshark said... > I'll bring you down a bottle of wine as I can't stand the stuff... No need but I wont say 'no'. There'll be some beer in the fridge (if you get to it before Richard) and probably some vodka or whatever in the cupboard. I'm sure you'll be able to manage. E-mail me and I'll give you the address etc. You realise it's a good 7hr drive from Auckland, right? Andrew.
  14. markoshark said... > Woohoo, a couch! No, an actual bed. In a room to yourself and everything. Andrew.
  15. Stella said... > I believe Andrew still has a spare bed free. I do. First in, first served. Andrew.
  16. Folks, Turns out I have a spare room with a single bed in it if that'd be of use to anyone? Richard Littin from Hamilton will also be staying at my place. Andrew.
  17. Stella said... > What say someone organises a tank crawl? Works for me. I'd turn up, all things being equal. I only have the one tank in the house these days, as well as a swimming pool with goldfish in it but people are welcome here anytime. There's usually some non-fishy things here to interest people... Andrew.
  18. HaNs said... > Hoping to wrangle it Richard Littin from Hamilton is talking about driving down so may be able to offer a lift. Obviously that means you come and go as he wants though, which may not be ideal. Andrew.
  19. Stella said... > Yes I do need to join a club... I suspect the NZKA would have you. It's a postal club anyway. The AGM is apparently early April so membership after that would work. Let me know if you want to know who to talk to. > So again, who is coming? Definite? Me. :bounce: :bounce: Andrew.
  20. Caryl said... > ... I can't get time off work... Boo. Twist Stellas arm to join your club and she'll be more likely to come to Conference... ;-) Andrew.
  21. Barrie said... > Has anyone heard of Don Handley ex of Park Rd, Titirangi Not for a very long time. Is he still alive? I remember visiting his place a few times when he was mostly into discus and rainbows but had a few killies (Epi. annulatus and chocolate australe spring to mind). That must be 20-odd years ago. John Sutton would probably know. Or perhaps Dave Cooper? Andrew, 137.
  22. Stella said... > ... do dinner somehow ... There's always 'Hell Pizza' somewhere (my place?). Bear in mind that it *is* Easter and various things may not be open on the Friday or Sunday... > Andrew, you know the sites, what sort of timing makes sense to you? It should be getting dark around 8:00-ish I guess (Daylight Saving Time ends in early April). I think that if we left your place at 4:00 then we could do that farm stream with the Uplands Bullys (perhaps coming back via the Ashhurst Domain where there are mudfish even if we'll never see any, other than pictures at the visitors area . We could then do pizza/subway/takeaways/cucumber sandwiches at my place or elsewhere (where late people could meet us) and then head for the Turitea (which for out-of-towners is only 15 minutes away) for some spotlighting. We could then head back to town where people can either hit their beds or socialise some more at a yet to be established venue. How does that sound? Bear in mind that people who don't come to Palmerston North all the time may want to check out Wet Pets and perhaps Animates at some stage. Andrew.
  23. BlueandKim said... > Pepper Tree Hostel... Conveniently this is between Stellas place and the central city (closer to the city by far) and is reported to be quite nice. The nearby intersection could be a nightmare due to roadworks... I don't know anything about the other places suggested. If anybody wants to bring a tent then they can put it up on my back lawn (my place is a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute car ride from Stellas but further from the city). I have no native fish though. Andrew.
  24. Caryl said... > How definite is this trip? Stella is here at the moment and says "it's definitely happening". I'll be there. Andrew.
  25. Hey, I'm 80% committed to this if it happens. I talked to Pete and he's in a similar boat (as far as I know). He, being the car driver, makes it easier but I can do it on a motorcycle if required. I'm old and sad but have done my time sleeping in 'dorms'. I'd like a room to myself (and my immediate friends) rather than sharing a 'dorm'. I'm OK to pay for this if it's not ridiculous. If it happens, I'm up for it. Catching up with fish-freaks is always fun. Someone should mention it to the Hamilton people. I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Richard Litten were not interested, in the right circumstances. Andrew.
