  1. You are correct. I turn off all my pumps tonight to do a water change and clean the sand and bingo my fire fish was swimming all around the tank. What do you do? lower the current for one fish or stuff the little bugger for the rest of the tank? They don't tell you these things at the LFS do they! No they look nice swimming around with no place to hide and low current. Do I have low current days for the little bugger. Never seen him eat.
  2. I have an issuie with too direct water flow on some of my corals. The streams strip the tissuie off them. As they grow I have too lift them to stop this problem. Cookie said do what Hollywood have done and cut the tunnel part off the front. At the moment I have had too turn them down. Any comments?

    Red Slime Remover

Well I have tested my levels. Ca 420 Mg 1350 No3 5 Ph 7.5 Po4 0 Kh 6 Kh and Ph is low how do I lift this? chimera may have a point with CO2, my reactor is cloudy so I have turned it off. How do I get it running clear again? CO2 was running at 2 bubbles / sec and the drip rate was 2/sec. I have done a 200l water change and vacuumed the sand, first time it was ugly. I have white sand under that mess.

    Red Slime Remover

Tank has been running about 10 months. Yes you could be right and time will fix it. I'll test the water to night to see what levels I have.

    Red Slime Remover

I have not been feeding frozen food for a while and if I do it would be once a week. I have a reasonable amount of fish but nothing I would consider heaps. Never vacuum sand and not reagular with the water changes! I have lots of current, reasonable lighting, good skimmer and can't seem to beat it. I have spoken to people who have tried this product and they were very impressed.

  8. Where can I get this from?
  9. My tank was built by Greg and I found his work excellent and well priced. Much cheaper than going through a LFS. Yes I would highly recommend Greg.
  10. I have been having problems with Cyano and can't seem to beat it. I don't over feed. Well I don't feed heaps but do feed daily. Have been using Zeo with not changes. Water changes are lacking but what I have read water chnages don't make much differance. I have read the following and want to know if anyone has tried their approch? They use a product called Redox + to reduce the dissolved organic material which causes this probelm. Is this avalible in NZ? Any comments? http://netclub.athiel.com/cyano/cyanos2.htm
  11. Well my missing fish is back... he has come out of the rock work and said hello. Not for long though. Looks like he is a shy little falla
  12. Well this is not good. I have had white spot a few times and never lost a fish. But I did nothing as advised by people with experance and sat back and prayed. Take it slowly and start adding some fish again and every thing should be OK as long as your water is OK. So test for everything. Sorry for your loss. Not only have you lost some friends but quite a few $$$ which makes it all the worse.
  13. I used to have a 1250 skimmer and was very pleased with it. I have a Ocean Motion setup on my return and it is quite noisy and needs cleaning often. It needs a BANG every now and then to keep it working. I still like it so don't be put off too much.
  14. The waiting game has always worked for me. Just let the tank go through the cycle and hope.

    KH

I use the same kit and yes nine drops = Kh 9.
  16. Same same same.... brought the fish home added it to my tank and watch it swim in to the rocks and never saw it again.
  17. I have looked in to solinionds and are having trouble with the salt water application. I use one on my fresh water top up and it has been great. I only have to push a button and my 20l fills to a level swich and fills my sump. I was thinking of using a standard fresh water soliniod and changing the pin and spring twice a year! and yes it is a normally closed soliniod unless the output jams on then 1000l of salt water will flow in to my sump. What a mess under my house. Good thing is it is a dirt floor. Ask Cookie he thought I had a flash sump room...not. Looks like I should be able to set up a 40l auto change with the push of a botton using the sump level switches as inputs and 1000l tank soliniod and drain pump as outputs. Drain first and then fill. If I do two changes a week by then I should get 3 months out of a tank. Cool. Only issuie is it will take 1.5hrs to fill at the beach, must rember to take a beer.

    New Tank Set-up

Pictures are Wow great effort. Come take some pictures of my tank! With photos like that you will make it look great!
  19. Starting to set up a auto water change and got 2 x 1000l tanks which had Alimate in them. This is an enzine which they feed to chickens to help them digest corn better. 1 tank is to pipe to my sump and the other to fill on my trailer and syphin in to the other. Anyway I have filled the tanks with water and added acid to lift the Ph to 10 to kill any enzine left. The normal Ph is 4-5. Any comments on this? After a flash the tanks look nice and clean. I will now fill with salt and let sit for a couple of weeks and refill. I was thinking of piping a tank to my sump with a solinid and adding a small pump to my sump which will empty my sump to the low level switch and the turn on the soliniod and allow gravity to fill the sump to the normal sump level switch. All done by a push of a button. Dam PLC's are great. Problem is if the soliniod fails then I will flood my sump with slat water, not to bad but a pain. Not like flooding my sump with fresh water.
  20. My torch had a head die ages ago but the rest has gone mental. Not to much current for the torch. I have just moved mine as it has grown so much it was reaching out and touching a SPS and killing it.
  21. I would not paint it as it is just another thing to worry about if you start having problems. Imagine if it starts to flake in your tank!!! No thanks.
  22. I run two over flows in to one pipe which goes to my sump. I then tee off this pipe to my skimmer. I learned the hard way how to do it right. There are two problems, water surge and air bubbles. The tee off to the skimmer must come from the bottom of the pipe to stop the air problem and have a tap on this pipe to control the water flow. Mine is good but not purfect. A pump is the best way but this works well. Also good to skim the water stright from tank and retuirn it to your sump.
  23. Can it be done? What is the sucess rate of couiering frags? I'm keen to swaping a frag by couier if anyone wants to try.
