  1. Switching tanks should not be the answer to your problems. If you want a nice clean tank you should put in the effort of cleaning your current one then work on keeping it clean. If your just going to change the tank it's going to end up in the same condition as your current one if you continue ignor the easy ways of keeping a single tank. I think you should work on what you have at the moment and when you do have a nice clean tank with health fish then consider upgrading to a larger tank.
  2. Some snails growth and reprodution is just to fast and to high. I've had cases of snails growning to huge numbers and destroying my plants. and the shells of dead snails littered the bottom of the tanks. Some would come out with the water change but others had to be manualy removed. I still keep snails in my tank but I keep an eye on their numbers to make sure they don't get out of control again.
  3. Other wise you just remove all the snail from the tank manualy. This will take time but if you keep removing them every day you will catch up with them and stop them from reproducing. But clow loaches will be a quicker way
  4. You have to name this fish. Indy or some other name that belonged to an explorer
  5. no you dont want to get the kitty with that, it may never come back home.
  6. Get one of these in your house, They don't make a mess because rather then squishing flies it zaps them pretty good. Ive had one for a few years now. If you have kids this will give them something to do to http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics/No ... 985492.htm

Another tip for hiding the white edges of the pads is to wrap black electric tape around it. If the tape is a bit thicker then the pads are, streach the tape to make it thiner.
  9. I guess it depends which fish you get and how cold it will be in march/april.
  10. The first idea that came to mind when I read this was. A chilly bin with a heater and an inverter to power it. That would keep the temp stable. But it means buying an inverter. Others might have better ways.
  11. Hey I thought this looked pretty neat. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Lifestyle/Pets ... 651922.htm Does anybody have this?
  12. Bingo thats the place. I last went there to get plants about 5 years ago. No body stoped me . there are plenty of different plants in those ponds. Also not too far away is lake pupuke it has Potamogeton crispus. I'm not sure if it is native or not, any idea guys? I think that stuff might grow a bit to big for the tank you might have in mind. But there has to be other natives down there. I hope this help, get ready to get wet at chealse they will be a bit hard to find if you intend on staying dry.
  13. Chealse sugar works has the native oxygenating plant in the upper (small) pond. probably in the lower (big) pond too but ive always found it easyer to harvest in the upper pond. You might find its worth a trip.
  14. sad to hear that man. I saw a nice common pleco at Albany hollywood for $45 he was 30 cm But bugga was he that bad that you had to give him up.

  19. On order! You cant just put them on order before you have seen them. Thats like those mail order brides not right at all
  20. This Auckland water is crap. I too can smell the clorine from the tap water. I use an anti clorine additive when starting a new tank. and also when replacing a large amount of water. But I never use it to the amount sugested on the directions I always use a little less. So I guess that way I use it is just as a bit of a help along, thats it.
  21. I know Jude was after this stuff and i think some body else may have been too. I saw the Albany Hollywood fish farm selling Indian fern for $4.80 if I remember correctly. Heres their website http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/ they might ship this stuff if your lucky.
