  1. And these 2 are from Pupuke also
  2. My cameras shutter is to slow so taking pics of fish is near impossible Here are 2 of my discus I got from Pupuke Aquarium. So I guess Ronnie breed these.
  3. Have we all read the hidden message on the underside of the melafix label that mentions an the ingredients that are believed to cause cancer?
  4. It's getting better now. Almost gone infact. I thought it could be white spot to start with because it came up in a few white specks. But they grew bigger and became fluffy.
  5. Oh and both of them are otherwise fine. Very curious and very hungry.
  6. I'm not sure if this is a fungus or not, but, one of my two new discus has white stuff hanging from it. It looks fluffy and moves around a bit as it's attached to the fish. I noticed it after letting them out of the bags into their new home. I have so fare treated the tank with stress coat and melafix. I Suspect it maybe white spot but I would like the oppinion of somebody else how has kept discus before. If it is white spot can some one recommend a treadment that doesn't make my tank look like a toilet with that blue junk in it. Here is a very poor photo, the green arrow points out some of the stuff on him
  7. I could be interesed I'll let you know if I am. Thank you also Jude
  8. I've never exactly had a great knowledge for plants. But what I’m after are some slow growing plants. I would like things that are thick and full of leafs. Grow to around 10-20 cm. I would prefer to stay with my gravel substrate and I do have Co2. Any suggestions?

  10. Through a friend that went for a road trip to Rotorua. He got a couple himself. I'm looking at getting discus's now. it's going to be my first time keeping them.
  11. Yep I had the same problem. Bought what I thought what was a female turned out to be a male. Silly trans gender fish
  12. First of all hi people haven’t been here in a while A short about the stupidity of both me and a LFS. About 4 months ago I bought a betta from a LFS (I won't say which one it was). The thing is it was MEANT to be a female. The tank was filled with females and so that’s what I thought I was buying. Having a bit of past experience with bettas it also looked like a female to me. Any way when I got it home it went into a trap in a tank with a large male. They seemed to get along rather well for two days so I released this supposed female in with the big male. They got along fine for 3 or so months until the big male came to the end of his time. Now buy this stage I should have figured out that is was in fact a male from it body shape although it’s fins where very small and colour very dull. How ever I finally did figure out it was a male the hard way. I got a beautiful new white crown tail put him into the tank where I lost my big male. The supposed female was in the trap and all seemed well until I put them together and they absolutely destroyed one another. It was then when I finally found out it was a male. They have both recovered and healed rather well. The one thought to be a female has grown very large fins and can no longer be mistaken for a female. I am disappointed in myself for not noticing earlier that the fish was a male not a female. I’m also just as disappointed in the LFS how have a very experienced staff but didn’t see this either. I wonder how many others got males instead of females.
  13. I've had very shy bettas before. I just feed them at the front of the tank, and give them a mirror at the front of the tank too. I think that helped because they would always be around the front, looking for food or looking for that other betta that they can seem to catch.

    A sick Krib

My mum has a male krib which currently isn't doing to well. Last week a gourami was lost to a white fungus that was growing on it's mouth, gills and body. Now we fear the Krib has the same problem. He always has his mouth open and there are small signs of fungus on him now too. He is in a hospital tank with the temperature around 28 degrees C and has been treated with melafix and an anti fungus treatment. Small water changes are going to be carried out with stress coat being added to the water. I was hoping there may be some more ideas as to how it can be treated.
  15. Even worse, these are on sale at Hollywood fish farm. I for one am not impressed.
  16. On the topic of cories spawning, how do you tell their sex? I've tried looking at fins and body shape but I can't figure them out.
  17. Pupuke aquarium currently have spotted puffers.
  18. Bugga, I hope the rest of your fish do fine. I bought a betta in the weekend he's a brilliant turquoise. BUT he has white spot, which I’m not to worried about because it’s very mild. I did know that he had white spot when I purchased him, and I was willing to buy him because he looked so damn good. I’ve never heard of a death like the one yours had, It would be a lot better understanding it. Hopefully somebody here has an answer.
  19. It may look that way to some but you have to remember these fish would do the same thing in the wild. But I think that fish look their best when they get excited from the hunting of real live food.
  20. Well if I had the space to raise them all to adult size then sell them I would. But I have to pick out the best ones then leave the others to be food. Plus Gouramis look thier best when they feed on fast food
  21. Well I really do have to many, about 70 - 80 fry in a 2 ft tank. plus 9 krib fry which are 1 - 2 cm.
  22. I got too many guppy fry at the moment. I think I might set a gourami loose in the fry tank. Thats fun to watch, and it reminds me of pac man as the big yellow fish gobles all the little white dots
