  1. from what i've read on the net about these, you can keep them single OR in grps of 3-5, a pair and the dominant one with make the other's life a misery, they do prefer company though, they are very intelligent for fish and are jumpers which is a bad combination. make sure you have NO gaps whatsoever in the lid / top of your tank else they will escape. I'm planning on getting 5 of them at some point in the future, once I have space for another tank
  2. Nemo was very curious when I put Dyson in, but they are generally ignoring each other atm, I think Nemo was trying to figure out if he could take Dyson in a fight and decided not to find out
  3. Common Plec, 35cm(14") long, called Dyson. Nemo is at the bottom of the picture
  4. No1 are 2 Angelfish, no clue about different yypes of those. No3 is possibly a peppered corydora. No4 is some sort of Loach. Sorry, can't be more exact, sure someone else can name them properly for you
  5. slightly better picture, current money is on a Snoweflake Bristlenose, though I can't find any info on one of those regarding size/preferred habitat etc...
  6. it did have the white patches when it was home, wasn't sure if it was whitespot, the markings faded then came back again.
  7. 2 Bristlenose, 14 neons and 4 zebra danio's, well planted tank, been going for around 6 weeks total, cycle finished around 3 weeks ago. freshwater tank, no salt whatsoever. (assuming you meant salinity ) water parameters are ph 7 Ammonia 0.6mg/L Nitrite 0.1mg/L Nitrate 5mg/L Phosphate 0 mg/L Feeding was flake food and one spirulina disk a day, not fed brine shrimp to them since it set the danio's off....
  8. Well, the redspot plec I got from Animates on Sat has kicked the bucket after a total of 2 days. He had went into an established tank and i've had no probs with any of the other fish in there. He was looking a bit stressed once he got him home, and I was wondering if he had whitespot. When I fished him out the tank, he had what looks like a semi transparent white patch on his back, in front of his dorsal fin,. picture below. I'm now concerned that whatever killed him will now affect the other fish in the tank, especially the 2 Bristlenose. Any ideas on what killed him would be appreciated.
  9. its about 7-8cm long and paid 50 bucks for him/her/it. Had a look at pictures of L182, he does look a bit like one of the pictures there but without any white spots on him.
  10. Green water and very small doses of liquifry atm, as for the parents, brine shrimp seems to be the aphrodisiac of choice
  11. moved another 100 this morning, must be well over 300 fry now, just hope most survive long enough!
  12. Just bought a Snowspot Pleco from Animates, but I can't find any info about such a species, does anyone know other possible names for it or any further info eg what it can go with, how big etc... best piccy I could get is below, its very dark off black colour, no spots on it that I can see. Edit - better piccy Edit No 2 - found a piccy on planetcatfish - Common Plec. image no 6 of 15.
  13. that looks exactly like the gold nuggets that Animates had for 190NZD or around 70 pounds....
  14. yeah Jane, the same ones, spotted yet more in the big tank.....
  15. add another 40 to the 60 earlier.... think I must have approx 200+ by now, and I think the female laid a huge pile of eggs again this morning in another tank, I'll see if any fry survive the 4 danio's and 14 neons in that one....
  16. moved another 60 from the big tank this morning, more every day....
  17. moved another 20 from the big tank into the breeding tank, nearing 100 now
  18. Mine have spawned.... twice.... I had moved them into the breeding tank last night and they left a sizable amount of eggs there this morning, then when Mystic dropped of Nemo, She noticed one or two(!!) fry floating about in the large tank. I reckon I've now got around 50-80 fry plus the eggs, will be interesting to see how many I end up with
  19. it'll be in Porirua as Kapi-Mana club arranging it Obviously were half asleep at that point during the meeting
  20. cheers for that, the towel trick worked nicely.
  21. I had a look in my 2 tanks and I've noticed that there seems to be what I can only describe as a thin oil slick over the surface of the water, this isin both the big tank I'm cycling and my smaller tank. Any ideas what could cause this? is it harmful to the fish? what can I do to remove it and keep it from happening again? (simple water change or something more drastic?) Cheers
  22. I'll check with Laura and see if she's up for a trip to Taranaki, might then see who has car / boot space
  23. I've seen my 3 male zebra danio's chase about the rather fat looking female for about an hour solid, bets half of us end up with alot more fish than planned...
  24. I took the top of the canister off, the bit with the motor and whatnot in it, I filled a sink with water, sat it in the sink and pulgged it in and lo and behold water came out of the outlet on the top, and quite fast too, so there is nothing wrong with the motor / pump whatsoever. I think I've managed to isolate the problem, the water inlet at the bottom of the canister isn't letting any water in, which does explain why its doing feck all, looking at it, it does seem very narrow and not likely to let very much water through anyway. anyone had problems with water not getting into the canister? Cheers
  25. the pump is sitting under the tank in the tank's stand . There is still only a tiny trickle going through and I've had it running for over 2 hrs now.
