  1. Barely 15mins ago, while having a quick look in our small 4ft community tank to see if we could spot our gold nugget pleco, I saw a couple of small shapes hiding at the bottom of the tank and what did I see, 2 1cm long baby bronze cats! While I was searching for more, I spotted a dozen tiny snowflake bristlenose around the airstone in that tank too! obviously the fish have been listening to Barry White again..... Numbers to come tomorrow, once I've had time to catch all the wee blighters and put them in a safer tank.
  2. /em = /me, just depends on which chat program you use.....
  3. '/em' = emotes /em falls over it should be read as 'Modern Angel falls over' This has been your Netiquette lesson for today, carry on!
  4. /em grabs a guitar and tries to sing Kumbaya very very badly! All together now!!
  5. heh, try being 'nibbled' by a Mosaic cichlid(big buggers, bad atitude), I just about wet meself! Rosy barbs would be a mere tickle by comparison! and another thing, back when I was a lad, the TV licence was cheaper and all the buses were on all the time, and isn't that Terry Wogan such a nice man......
  6. You get a lot of strange lights in the sky over in Wainui??
  7. I've also found this stuff in several tanks of mine as well, you prolly got it from me, think of it as a fair swap for all the snails and duckweed
  8. How can you even consider selling gentle Greebo!!! He's not for sale(unless someone has a 8ft tank going and would consider a trade...) And yes, She is very bored.
  9. I got 22 forms done and handed in to Kevin for checking for book references then he sent them to warren(I hope...) as he has lots of books and I didn't. I know for a fact that some of the fish I have done have been done by others, but I'd rather spend 20 mins filling the form and taking a picture of a fish and it not being used than no form being submitted for a fish that I like and may want again only to find its no longer available. The call was put out over 3 months ago to get this done, it took me a whole 3-4 hrs to do those 22, thats equivalent of 90secs per day spent doing it, so no excuses for not having the time etc, if you sat down for 4 hrs total watching the TV in the last 3 months, then you had the time to do your fish. There are those out there who have family, full time jobs, disgruntled cats, online computer game addictions and Family Guy cartoons on DVD to watch and they still managed to get their share done.
  10. hmm, noticed that my name is missing from the breedings(Zebra Danios, Bronze Corys), was there not enough space wth Billaney and Stu taking up 3/4 of the page? Or was Kevin slacking and didn't send you the details? Heads shall roll! Mwuhahahahaha!
  11. Just one point I'd like to make regarding everyone asking for a fish reference from a book, if you haven't seen the page yourself, and there is a misidentification, there is a good chance MAF will say sorry, can't accept your fish. To get around this, try the following.... I required a book reference for the Golden Red Eye Pleco, there is no picture in the All L numbers book I have, I checked on Planet catfish Forums and someone gave me the following. Page 8 of TFH/Geis' "The Guide to owning Catfish" ISBN = 0-793-80353-5 To check this, I went to Amazon.com, they have put together a online book ordering system, where you can buy single pages, chapters or whole book in electronic format. If you get reference numbers from someone, go to amazon and look for the ISBN number in their book section and view an excerpt, you might be able to see the page you have been referred to, that way you can check the book reference yourself to make sure that they are a definite match. Not sure if every book ever written is there, but you can always check on the offchance. I just checked amazon myself for the above reference and I viewed page 8 and yep, its there alright http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0793803 ... eader-page if you got references from someone off the boards, please do this to ensure that your fish have been IDed correctly.
  12. I lost a Elephant nose today it was the oldest one I had. He was fine until I put Melafix in the tank to treat some ill Rummynose tetra's in my big community tank. I treated the whole tank as I wanted to make sure that whatever is bumping off the rummynose doesn't spread to other fish. I only then remembered that He didn't take too kindly to Melafix in a previous tank and I found him about 30mins later floating upside down but still breathing. I moved him into another tank with no melafix in it and he seemed to get better, swimming about a bit and floating the right way up. I came through ths morning to check on him and he was almost white and floating about near the bottom of the tank, an ex- fish. The tank he was moved into was well established with no problems. The 4 other Elephant noses I have showed no bad reaction to the melafix, neither did the 5 clown loaches or other fish in the tank. Has anyone come across anything like this before?
  13. Already done. I handed snowflake page(and 21 others...) to Kevin last night Stu, he's sending a big bundle to Warren from the club.
  14. I can't check that one up for you, lent it to someone at fish club meeting last night, check with caserole, he has a copy too.

  16. managed to get all of my other fish IDed, but these 2 have eluded me. if you know the scientific names of these 2, be much obliged! Golden Red Eye Pleco Royal / Cochliodon Pleco
  17. Bronze Corys have done it again, another batch of about 150 eggs, I'll see if I can get them to hatch and raise more than the 27 i managed last time
  18. L144 Ancistrus Sp. page 117 Loricariidae: All L-Numbers / Alle L-Welse ISBN - 3-936027-51-X
  19. Stu, I've got the 2004 reprint, it goes up to L350 and LDA76

  21. hmm, I think a photoshop competition for the next aquarium world, Caryl can provide the original picture and see what (family friendly) results we get
  22. Salt didn't work with the leeches I have, had some in a 80L tank, ended up throwing around 10 tablespoons of salt in there and the wee feckers just would not die. I picked a few out and dosed salt directly on them and that did work, obviously you need to get *every* leech in the tank like that, which is impossible. Boiling water and cleaning the whole tank out worked wonders though , I'm going to try copper sulphate on my 6ft tank and I have no desire to dismantle that after just getting it to look good with semi decently established plants now growing happily in there. I'll update you on how I get on Cheers
  23. Hi, I recently acquired one of these from Animates, and since I know their track record for identifying fish, I search the net on the name and very little came up, looked at a few pictures and and found what looked to be the fish in question.... Mystus Armatus, also refered to as Mystus nigriceps, which is the juvenile for Mystus micracanthus, and a couple of others too, it then got very confusing.... http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworld/s_g_187.php So....anyone had any experience with one of these guys, eg tank conditions / suitable tankmates / diet etc... Cheers
