  1. Sweet, thats good to know, it does look pretty good with red tips. Not yet, i will update my pics in the members tank section soon. I have just changed my setup a bit, after having a wicked thread algae attack. Im just waiting for the tank to clear a little more, and my plants to start cranking
  2. Hey all, just wanting to know if ambulia tips turning red is a prob? or normal ? Thanks
  3. Two and a half cups, as in baking cups. It may be a little to much but im getting excellent results this way. There is no need to keep it warm, sometimes it can slow down a bit at nite, but thats not a worry. I use two 2.5 coke bottles with a ladder diffuser(My DIY reactor needs re-thinking) and usually get two bubbles a second.
  4. I use, 2 and a half cups white sugar, with half a teaspoon of yeast, and half a teaspoon of baking soda.Fill a 2.25 ltr coke bottle up with warm water, to the line where it starts to go into the neck, cap it and shake. This gives me about 2-3 weeks of steady co2 bubbles, usually at one bubble a second sometimes you have to give it a couple of small shakes to get it going when you first make a batch.
  5. Hmmm, me too its my fav fish , i will keep a close on things. Funny how when i oppened the bottle it smells a bit like alcohol, i used to dose alcohol to my marine tank as a carbon source, and to help with cyano probs. I wonder if it would do the same in a freshwater tank :-? might be a cheaper option if it works.
  6. Well ive got some excell now 500 ml, should be enough to do my tank 120 ltrs, prob twice at double dose. So here goes, 5ml per 40 ltrs on start up, then 5ml per 200 ltrs every day, Doubled I hope this works :-?
  7. Thanks Fishboi, great info , Im a bit woried about my fish as i have a few expensive ones, have you noticed any stress on the fish? Would the flourish be the better option if $ wasnt an issue, just as far as fish health goes?
  8. Ok, so ive got my Co2 levels correct and have made my own frerts, but still cant get rid of this Green thread algae  . This stuff has really taken hold of the tank, the plants arent dying, but they could look better and grow alot faster than they are. I think if i dose the tank with something and rid the tank of most of the algae, the plants are well established enough to out compete it. A few of you have recommended algae fix, or flourish excell wich i am keen to use if i can clear the tank up, but just wanted to hear some experiences first, as i have alot of fish and dont want to nuke them or the plants. Thanks
  9. Thanks fishboi, clear tube would have been better, then i could see if its doing the job ok. Im thinking this will work ok, i might have to add some more bioballs to it yet, but il see how it goes
  10. Sweet sounds good, i guess thats whats good with using coke bottles, they are made for holding pressure, the only seal to worry about is the air lines.
  11. sounds good , i might try and do it on a smaller scale, if i can find a descent small clear bottle.
  12. Hey all, just wanted some ideas on DIY Co2 bubble counters Today i made an inline reactor out of pvc pipe, some hansen fittings and some Bio balls, but now have no way of telling my bubble rate. I think my easiest way would be a small coke bottle or something, does anyone have any other variations on bubble counters? cheers

    Moonlight

I bought one of those fans from dicksmith, to cool my tank from my halide. I removed the LEDs and they do throw out not a bad amount of light, not while they are in the fan though.
  14. No worries, moonlightng will look really good Yea quite blue, with slight purple tint.
  15. M/halides will look heaps more blue than 14000k flouro IMO. I have a 5000k Aquamedic bulb, which is a very natural looking colour, will prob go for 6500k next time i change bulbs though, a little more white would be nice. Fishboi, i have a 14000k bulb used for a couople of months you can have cheap if you want to get a bulb to try for the colour.

Thanks, will get in contact with freshwest. Went to S.o.g today, and they do sell trace mix but i wasnt to sure if it was what i needed. It had very brief instructions, and no actual breakdown on the packet.

Ok, mayby i should have put DIY co2, sorry about that  Using two 2.5 ltr coke bottles, with a ladder diffuser, seems to work ok. Does anyone know a good way to test co2 levels in a tank?

Hey all just been looking into the pmdd fertilizer, i think i might look into giving it a go. Does anyone know a good place in Ak to get the trace mix, and other chems? or does anyone have any spare mix they would consider selling?(me being lazy  ) Also what would be the alternative kinda product from a Lfs? Thanks all
  23. Should do the trick, i have used a pondmaster 11 watt on a 360 ltr tank
  24. Quick update, after manual removal of alot of the thread algae, and a water change last nite, i dosed the tank with one capfull, which is an overdose but i think the tank needed it. Looking at the plants this afternoon, they are looking a bit more lively and greener. :bounce: Not 100% but hopefully things are on the mend
