  1. More light, more nutrients, more co2.
  2. I haven't read any Ben Bova, but Heinlein, Asimov and Arthur C Clarke are really the epitome of Sci Fi for me. They practically invented the genre, and they certainly perfected it - and they were writing stories while Bova was in diapers Today I'm reading Tropic of Cancer.
  3. Yeah but how often do you have a PC or notebook die from the stress of transport?
  4. I'm currently reading Dearly Devoted Dexter (the second book on which the TV Series is based) it's pretty good - about a blood spatter analyst with an uncontrollable impulse to kill, which he harnesses for good. If you liked American Psycho you'll like this, though it's a little more tame.
  5. Wow they sound awesome henward. Got any pics?
  6. This is Noodles. I work at Animates, and somebody brought him in looking for a home today. I was happy to give him one - he has the biggest bristles I've ever seen on a bristlenose, in real life or in pictures. He's also one of the largest bristlenoses I've seen full stop. The pictures don't give you a real idea of how massive he really is! I've got quite a large female that I've paired him with and plenty of hidey holes in the tank so hopefully I'll have little Noodles swimming around one day.
  7. The fact is that in a country with a state-funded health system the state can tell you how to live your life, because if you don't live it safely and healthily then they're going to have to pay for it. I think that if the health system was privatized and we just paid for what we use personally (or our insurance paid for it) then perhaps people would think twice about smoking because of the inevitable personal cost to them down the track, where as at the moment Uncle Helen will pick up the bill for them and make it all okay. And there's the added bonus of me not having to pay for other people who don't look after themselves.
  8. Hamilton's pretty much a joke in itself
  9. Some of you may remember me, I haven't posted here a while though - had a pretty intense start of the year at uni and couldn't really afford to have a life. That's all over now though and I'll be lurking around here once more. Just thought I'd better re-introduce myself. Most of my tanks have become obscenely overgrown but I'll get some more pictures once they're trimmed.
  10. If you do go for Option A I'd be quite interested in your Dat. Give me a PM if and when Edit: Have now seen your for sale thread and PM'd You! Too bad there isn't an option to delete posts.
  11. I wouldn't risk it myself, I know my Dat will try and fit anything in it's mouth, even if it's far too big for it to actually eat. The danger, I'm thinking, is from the clown loach's set of retractable spikes - if the Dat did try and make a go of it he'd get a set of piercings he didn't ask for, which might be fatal for both involved.
  12. Pantadon butterflys (Pantodon buchholzi) are completely distinct from synodontis catfish. They're not catfish at all actually. Look it up. Here's a picture of a synodontis: There's a bit of a difference.
  13. I've got some java moss and java fern growing in a 4ft tank about 20cm above the waterline, the only water it gets is the occasional splash from the spraybar, which isn't much. So since I'm the only person to reply to this topic that has actually tried growing these emersed, I say yes it'll work, give it a try.
  14. Looking good dude, glad to see the glosso is taking off.
  15. wait...when did flushing something down the toilet become an acceptable treatment for any disease?
  16. Yeah it really depends on the personality of the Oscar. I recently had an Oscar pass away that was totally fine in a heavily planted tank with a variety of plants.
  17. As previously said, you don't really have to "try". With good food, good water conditions and lots of plants you can't go wrong. Also fyi, they don't lay eggs, they scatter them.
  18. I think you're probably right about them being lazy David, I had a fully grown swordtail in the tank with mine for ages, I initially put it in there as food but it didn't care for it, I recently went away for five days, came back and it was gone
  19. I've kept anubis successfully with my oscar, and java fern too.
  20. Thankyou Ira, if you didn't say it I was going to.
  21. 1. is Hygrophilia Polysperma. 2. not sure, but I've seen it for sale quite a bit. 3. is common name is "mouse ears" - not sure what the scientific name is.
  22. Many plants do this at night, basically it just stops them absorbing light. Think of it as them going to sleep.
  23. Bigger than that, at least 45cm eventually. Their growth does slow down as they get bigger though.
  24. Awesome to hear, I might have to look into getting some of those pellets - they'll be a lot more nutritious than just frozen shrimp & bloodworm. Do you still have your big dat, David?
  25. From my experience in a pet shop, I'd have to say Chinese Algae Eaters by far. All the fishos I work with agree with me too - nothing else compares.
